Anambra Boat Mishap: I Was Under Duress To Ferry Traders – Sailor  

Mr. Desmond Amaugo, the sailor of the boat that capsized and killed many people in Anambra State has said that he was under duress to embark on the trip by desperate female traders. Amaugo said the boat mishap that occurred during the weekend at Umunakwo, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State happened as a result of traders who were eager to sell their prematurely harvested crops due to this year’s flood that submerged their farms before the crops could mature. Scores Die As Boat Capsizes In Anambra

At least 76 persons are feared dead after an engine boat conveying about 85 persons capsized in Anambra State on Saturday morning. Reports say the boat took off from Onukwu Bridge to Nkwo market, Ogbakuba in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, with about 85 people on board when it capsized. Sources say only about nine passengers have been rescued while the search for the rest persists. The details of the incident remain scanty at the time of filing this report although unverified sources from a State Emergency Management Authority official said the mishap occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
