UCL: Osimhen Continues Goal Scoring Streak As Napoli Down Frankfurt

Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen continued his impressive form in front of goal as Napoli defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash on Tuesday. Napoli was awarded a penalty in the 35th minute when Osimhen was fouled in the box but the spot kick was missed by Georgia international, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.   Osimhen put Napoli ahead in the match after converting a Hirving Lozano pass five minutes after the missed penalty kick. JAMB Halts 2023 Direct Entry Registration

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has suspended the ongoing 2023 Direct Entry registrations. The announcement was contained in a statement issued by Fabian Benjamin, its Head, Public Affairs and Protocol. The statement stated that the registration which started on Monday, February 20, was halted with effect from Tuesday, February 21, 2023. It added that the suspension is to help the development of certain measures, which are intended to better serve prospective candidates. Eight Students Travelling Home For Election Die in Auto Crash

Eight students of Madonna University in Rivers State have been burnt to death in a road mishap, reports say. The incident took place along the Trans-Saharan road in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Saturday while the students were travelling to Taraba State. According to TheCable, the undergraduates were travelling home after the school went on a break to permit students to vote in the forthcoming elections.   Their bus allegedly caught fire and got burnt beyond recognition, leaving eight dead and 10 other passengers seriously injured. The Texas board of nursing has pressed charges against some nurses for reportedly obtaining educational credentials deceitfully in the United States. The US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General (HHS-OIG) in a multi-state coordinated law enforcement action, tagged Operation Nightingale, found that some persons had obtained fraudulent nursing degree diplomas and transcripts. A middle-aged woman identified as Mama Dada has set herself on fire in her rented apartment allegedly over her inability to offset a N70,000 loan she took from a microfinance bank. The deceased burnt beyond recognition as the entire building situated at Oke-Keesi, Itoko area of Abeokuta was razed. Court Sentences Obasanjo’s In-law To Seven Years Imprisonment

John Abebe, a businessman, has been sentenced to seven years in prison by a Lagos state special offences court in Ikeja for forging a document belonging to an oil company. Ruling on the suit on Saturday, the judge, Mojisola Dada, gave an option of a fine of N50 million to be paid within 30 days in place of imprisonment. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had in 2018 arraigned Abebe, a younger brother of the late Stella Obasanjo, former first lady, on four counts. Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, has directed that old and new naira notes remain legal tender in the state pending the outcome of supreme court judgment. Buhari in a televised address on Thursday said he has directed the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to allow N200 notes remain legal tender until April 10. According to the president, all N500 and N1,000 notes will remain redeemable a the CBN and designated points for 60 days. His directive came less than 24 hours after the supreme court insisted that the old notes were still valid, and adjourned the case filed by many states – including Kaduna, seeking an extension to the deadline on the old notes beyond February 2022. Court Orders Evans To Pay Kidnap Victim €233,000, N50m

Billionaire kidnap mastermind, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, was on Tuesday ordered by a Lagos State High Court at Tafawa Balewa Square to refund the sum of €233,000, he received as ransom from one of his kidnap victims, Chief Donatus Dunu. Justice Olukayode Ogunjobi, also mandated Evans to pay the sum of N50m as general damages in favour of the claimant.   The victim, a pharmacist, was abducted on February 14, 2018, and held hostage with ransom collected from his family, he escaped from where he was held.
