Nigeria: Stop Harrassing the CJN or We Will Mobilize and Shake the Country – Niger Delta Agitators

A coalition known as the Niger Delta Agitators has issued a warning to the Federal Government regarding what they term the harassment of the Chief Justice of the federation. According to the group, this harassment was simply based on the fact that the CJN was from the South-south and not from the North. In a statement released by Niger Delta Watchdogs' General John Dukku the group stated as follows: "The General Assembly of the Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators is shocked to learn about the arraignment of the Chief Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Justice Walter Onnoghen over allegations of his false declaration of assets based on a petition written by one Mr. Dennis Aghanya of the Anti-Corruption and Research Based Data Initiative. The CJN is suffering just because he is ...

Nigeria: Chief Justice Onnoghen Fails to Appear before the CCT

We are not just challenging jurisdiction, we are even challenging the jurisdiction of this tribunal to even snif that charge - Olanipekun (SAN) The Chief Justice of Nigeria, on Monday, failed to appear before the tribunal to be docked to enable him to take his plea to the six-count criminal charge against him. At exactly 10am when the charge marked CCT/ABJ/01/19, was called up, Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar, demanded to know why the CJN was not in court and if he was served with the charge. The prosecution counsel, Umar, SAN, who led five other lawyers, told the court that the CJN was served through one of his personal assistants. “When we went to his house, he directed his personal assistant to collect the charge on his behalf. His personal assistant endorsed it, s...

Opinion: Buhari, Tinubu and the Abdication of Responsibility By Dele Momodu

Fellow Nigerians, despite the open and brazen braggadocious posturings of the ruling party, things seem to be fast falling apart within the All People’s Congress (APC). The arrogance of power probably must have misled some of the powerful gladiators in the party that they are invincible and infallible. But unwarranted arrogance and pride go forth before a calamitous fall. There seems no doubt that the APC also underrates the extensive networks and connections of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who has been in this race for 25 solid years. Speak to most of them, they will boastfully tell you that Buhari owns the North of Nigeria, as if the North is one State or monolithic or homogenous region. Except for those too lazy to analyse the ethnic, religious and political configuration of Nigeria, the...

Nigeria: Code of Conduct Tribunal Cannot Try Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen

In a reaction from legal practitioners, it is becoming clear that the Code of Conduct Tribunal has no jurisdiction to try the Chief Justice of the Federation. In a post published by a lawyer, the reason for this was explained. The post reads: "Serving judges can’t be tried by cct by virtue of the judgment of the court of appeal in respect of the case of Justice Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, the chief justice of Nigeria and in fact, any serving judicial officer judge, cannot be tried by the code of conduct tribunal or even court, until the national judicial council, NJC would have dealth with the matter. Though, the matter is still on appeal at the supreme court, the judgment still stands. As a matter of fact, based on that judgment, the code of conduct tribunal had to discontinue the trial of...

Talo Skibo , MC Oluomo, Koko Zaria, Hamburger, Esi Oluwo, Kunle Poly, Owoseni, Nayam, Mamok. Reasearch these names. They are thugs, not just your average thugs, though. They are millionaires. Why are they millionares? Because they can supply thugs for violence. Esi oluwo is dead. Hamburger is dead. Both from Oshodi. Esi Oluwo died in 2015, he decamped to PDP and APC lost in almost ALL elections in oshodi. Tinubu called him and bribed him to return to APC. The day he returned to APC, he was stabbed reportedly at an APC RALLY and he died. Hamburger was killed at the Oshodi APC primaries in 2017. Go to youtube. Aides of Both Oluwo and Hamburger said on camera that Mc Oluomo supervised the killings. They said they were there and were eye witnesses. MC Oluomo was declared wanted by the...

Opinion: 2019 Elections and Amina Zakari by Reuben Abati

President Muhammadu Buhari has promised severally in the lead up to the 2019 general elections, that he would ensure a free, fair, transparent and credible process, and defend the right of the people to choose. But the appointment, literally on the eve of the election of a niece of his, Mrs Amina Zakari as the INEC Commissioner in charge of the National Results Collation Centre has placed a big question mark on that declaration. The attempt to deny any form of blood relation or filial connection between the President and the INEC official is grossly unconvincing. It has deepened suspicions, and exposed the incompetence and insensitivity of those who proposed her for that position in the first place. INEC faces an integrity challenge. It must address it. Ms Zakari is however, not n...

Opinion: Justice Onnoghen and The Rising Fascism in Nigeria by Achike Chude

In any society that predominantly seeks excellence, it should be standard practice that every infraction, especially those by public officials is investigated. It is therefore expected that every action carried out by government towards sanitizing the polity should be upheld and applauded by the public because everybody ultimately benefits. This should naturally be our disposition over this Onnoghen matter - to support the action of the federal government to bring Onnoghen to book if he is culpable. This would be especially so if this government is all about probity, accountability, transparency and integrity. But this is a government that provides accommodation and refuge to Obanikoro, Orji Kalu, Akpabio, Tinubu, Oshiomole, etc. This is a government that accommodated Maina and the suspend...

Nigeria: IPOB Insists on Boycotting the 2019 General Elections

The leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has insisted that its position on boycotting the 2019 elections has not changed. In a statement credited to Mazi Alphonsus Uche Okafor-Mefor, the deputy leader of the group, the group said "Forget all the noise, disregard all self-destructive, nocturnal activities and conducts of baby opportunists whose stock in trade is treachery in Biafra land. Truth is that we have made up our minds, crossed boundaries and calibrated territories and guess what ? We have firmly established ourselves both in minds and presence of friends and foes. We, therefore, make bold to state with every ounce of certainty and beyond every conceivable equivocation that nobody can question the wisdom in "boycotting the fraudulent election" of the zoo ca...

Nigeria: The Charge and Planned Arraignment of the Hon. Chief Justice Onoghen

Our attention has been drawn to the trending news that the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onoghen has been charged before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, based on a petition submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau on Wednesday the 9th of January, 2019, and is to be arraigned before the Tribunal on Monday , the 14th January, 2019. The prosecutorial decision that has been taken by the Executive Branch of Government ( FGN / FRN) is a very grave one. It is unprecedented in the political history of Nigeria. Let us go down memory lane. During  the blistering General Murtala Muhammed Military Regime, in 1975,  there were massive purges in the Judiciary as well as in the public service. Many public servants were removed “ with immediate effect” . During the purges , a sitting Chief Justice...
