Bishop Kukah Speaks Truth To Power – Atiku

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has lauded the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rev. Father Mathew Kukah, on the occasion of his 70th birthday on August 31. ASUU Strike: FG convenes Meeting Of Varsity Councils, VCs

The Federal Government has convened a meeting of pro-chancellors, vice-chancellors and chairmen of government councils of federal universities in Abuja on September 6 as part of an attempt to find a solution to the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. The meeting was called on the instance of the National Universities Commission, NUC. The invitation letter which was signed by Chris Maiyaki, NUC’s Deputy Executive Secretary, Administration, stated that participants would review steps taken by the government to resolve the strike. The Abuja court of appeal has upheld the nomination of Sherrif Oborevwori as the Delta State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The court overturned the judgement of a federal high court in Abuja that asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognize David Edevbie as the authentic candidate of the PDP for the guber poll. Recall that Oborevwori, speaker of the Delta house of assembly, had polled 590 votes to defeat his closes rival, Edevbie, the commissioner for finance during the James Ibori administration, who got 113 votes. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has declared a comprehensive and indefinite industrial action. The union’s National Executive Council had convened a meeting on Sunday to deliberate the government’s failure to meet their demands. In a communique issued at the end of the meeting titled, ‘ASUU strikes are to save public universities,’ and signed by ASUU National President, Prof, Emmanuel Osodeke, noted the disappointment of NEC at the insincerity of the government. Court Dismisses FG’s Request To Extradite Abba Kyari To US

An Abuja federal high court has dismissed a suit by the federal government asking to extradite suspended deputy commissioner of police, DCP, Abba Kyari, to the United States to face charges. The suspended DCP is wanted in the US over alleged conspiracy to commit wire fraud, money laundering, and identity theft. Inyang Ekwo while delivering judgment on Monday adjudged the suit filed by the office of the attorney-general of the federation was competent and bereft of merit.
