ASUU Half Salaries: Governors Set To Intervene

Governor Muhammadu Badaru of Jigawa State has promised that the dust raised by the payment of half salary to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, would be legally addressed by all the state governors. Badaru said this yesterday during the official inauguration of the leadership of the National Association of Nigeria Students, NANS, that took place in Abuja. The governor assured that his administration would not relent in its support to students and stabilise the education sector through NANS. He stressed that President Muhammadu Buhari was not oblivious to the plight of the students induced by the ASUU strike and would not give room for similar situations again. Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, formerly Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, has stated that it cannot retain a pump price of N170 per litre for Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol. Human Rights activist, Femi Falana, SAN, has asked the Federal Government to cease provoking lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union, ASUU, in a dispute over wages. Falana said this when he appeared on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, on Tuesday. He said university teachers deserve their full salaries for the period they were on strike. Recall that ASUU had on February 14, 2022, declared a strike that lasted for eight months, grounding academic activities in the nation’s public universities. Tiktokers To Be Flogged In Kano For Defaming Ganduje

The Kano State Magistrates’ Court in its ruling on Monday ordered the flogging of two comedians identified as Mubarak Muhammad, and Zazifi Bala, for abusing Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State on their Tiktok handles. According to Magistrate Aminu Gabari, in his ruling on Monday, the duo should be given 20 lashes for their offense and will sweep and wash toilets in the surroundings of the court for a period of 30 days. The Magistrate ordered that the individuals be publicly flogged. The convicts were also ordered to pay a fine of N10,00 each for defaming Ganduje and a further N10,00 for causing public disturbance. Court To Decide ASUU’s With Withdrawn Salaries – FG

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has said that only the National Industrial Court, NIC, can direct the Federal Government on whether or not to pay the withdrawn salaries of lecturers.
