We’ll Clampdown on People With Fake COVID-19 Certificates – Lagos Health Commissioner

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi has stated that the Ministry has observed that people have begun to have access to fake Covid-19 certificates, promising to clampdown on such people. He gave this warning at an ongoing press briefing at the Ministry of Health in Lagos on Monday. “We suspect people are gaining access to fake certificates and we will clampdown on them as this is a very dangerous trend.” Abayomi also added that Lagos residents who have tested positive have been observed to give fake contacts and phone numbers at the isolation facilities, making contact tracing difficult.

The Lagos State Government on Sunday sealed the Cubana night club, Ikeja GRA for violating the COVID-19 protocols introduced to curb the second wave of the virus in the state. BREAKING: Gridlock as Fuel Tanker Bursts into Flames on Otedola Bridge

There is heavy traffic at the Berger-Alausa-Magodo axis of Lagos State after a fuel tanker burst into flames on Otedola bridge, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Saturday. Reports in the media have it that the incident happened a few minutes to 6pm. The incident caused panic on the expressway as many vehicles made U-turn in a bid to avoid being engulfed by the fire. Some passengers were also seen alighting from vehicles hurriedly. Many passengers were also stranded at the Alausa Secretariat and toll gate bus stops. As of the time of filling this report, details of the fire incident are sketchy.

BREAKING: COVID-19 Second Wave: Sanwo-Olu Shuts Down Schools Until Further Notice

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed that all public and private schools in the state be shut down until further notice. The governor disclosed this in a statement on Friday. He also directed all public servants from Grade Level 14 and below, except emergency workers and first responders, to work from home for the next 14 days starting from Monday next week – in the first instance. Sanwo-Olu also stressed that concerts, carnivals and street parties were banned in Lagos until further notice. BREAKING: Sanwo-Olu Tests Positive For COVID-19

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has tested positive for coronavirus. The state health commissioner, Akin Abayomi announced this on Saturday. African News Today had earlier reported that the governor had gone into isolation on Friday following contact with persons infected with the virus. Abayomi said the Governor is currently experiencing “mild symptoms and fatigue typical of a mild case of COVID.” In a statement, he added that Sanwo-Olu is receiving treatment and is being closely monitored at home by a clinical team from the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba. “Mr. Sanwo-Olu is doing well on treatment and rest and we are confident that he will recover quickly and clear the virus,” the statement said.

COVID-19: Sanwo-Olu Goes into Self-Isolation

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has gone into self-isolation following the news of one of his close aides testing positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. According to a statement by the state Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, the unnamed aide was said to have tested positive, necessitating the governor to proceed on self-isolation. The governor and other members of his team will be tested by the Lagos State biobank but will remain in isolation until the results of the test are available. “This is not the first time the governor is having the COVID-19 test. He has had at least three since May when he announced that 10 of his aides had tested positive for the virus,” the commissioner stated.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture has reprobated Cable News Network, CNN, for backtracking on its earlier reports on the shootings at the Lekki tollgate area of Lagos State by clarifying tweets posted on its official Twitter handle. CNN on Thursday admitted it misreported the death toll at the Lekki incidence, noting that tweet on October 23 did not emphatically state that the death toll was from protest across the country. It also denied attributing the number of casualties, 38, to Amnesty International.
