Barcelona’s Aubameyang Retires From International Football

Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has retired from international football, his country’s federation has confirmed. Barcelona’s Aubameyang, who is Gabon’s all-time top scorer with 30 goals in 72 appearances, sent a letter to the federation on Tuesday, confirming his decision. “After 13 years of pride in representing my country, I announce I am ending my international career,” wrote the 32-year-old. “I would like to thank the Gabonese people and all those who have supported me in the good and bad times alike. “I will keep a lot of good memories like the day I made my debut… or the day I came back from Nigeria with the African Ballon d’Or. Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze scores in Crunchy Tie Against Barcelona

Villarreal speedster Samuel Chukwueze scored the opening goal against Barcelona this afternoon, with a little help from Jordi Alba’s butter boots. Chukwueze is renowned for his devastating pace, so Ronald Koeman will have been thankful to see it was Alba who was 1v1 with the Nigerian as he raced onto a through ball. Unfortunately for Barcelona and Alba, he lost his footing, allowing Chukwueze to gain ground on him, which was always going to prove to be bad news from a Barca perspective. Chukwueze kept his cool, rounded the goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and found the finish to make it 1-0 to the home side and potentially dent Barca’s title hopes.

World Cup: Spain Fires Coach a Day to the Start of the World Cup

The Spanish FA today announced the sack of its head coach Julen Lopetegui. The sack of the Spanish coach was a direct outcome of Real Madrid's announcement yesterday. Real Madrid had yesterday named Lopetegui as their new manager. The announcement which took the Spanish FA by surprise was seen as improper. Julen Lopetegui had only three weeks ago, signed a 3-year deal with the Spanish FA. By signing Julen Lopetegui, Real Madrid was going to pay the €2 million buy out clause of his contract with the Spanish FA. However, with his sack, Real Madrid will no longer be paying this as he will now be going as a free-agent.
