School Resumption: Nigerian Government to Commence Disinfection of School on July 7 – Muhammad Mahmood

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to commence disinfection of schools across the federation from June 7, 2020 in preparation for the resumption of school after protracted COVID-19 induced closure. This was announced by the Minister of Environment, Muhammad Mahmood at the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in Abuja on Monday. Cross River State Doctors Embark on Indefinite Strike, Say Governor Ayade Hiding COVID-19 Cases

The Nigeria Medical Association, Cross River chapter has accused the state Governor Ben Ayade of covering COVID-19 cases in the state, declaring an indefinite strike as a result. The strike action was conveyed in a letter by the NMA State chairman Agam Ayuk, to the Minister of Health Osagie Ehanire on Sunday. The Lagos state government has incorporated private sector laboratories to commence COVID-19 tests. Residents would be required to pay between N40,000-N50,400 to be tested in the private labs. This was announced by the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Abayomi while inaugurating the Private-Public collaboration on the containment of coronavirus to expand the capacity of the government to effectively respond to the pandemic. Abayomi said that residents who are unable to access free testing at government run laboratories now have the option to get tested at private sector laboratories at a fee between N40,000 and N50,400. Lagos Approves Seven Private Laboratories for COVID-19 Testing

The Lagos state government has approved seven private laboratories in the state to kick start COVID-19 testing and scale up testing capacity. Health ministry in Lagos disclosed that the ministry approved the seven laboratories after they had been vetted and properly screened by the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), to ensure their efficiency. Former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi was buried in the capital city of Ibadan on Sunday. Turkey Gifts Rwanda Face Masks to Help Combat COVID-19

Rwanda’s fight against coronavirus has been boasted by donation of face masks received from Turkey. The ministry of foreign affairs and international cooperation, Rwanda, acknowledged receipt of the donation in a statement describing it as “a sign of friendship and solidarity between the two countries in the fight against COVID-19.” The Turkish embassy in Rwanda said Ankara offered 50,000 face masks while a private firm donated 40,000 to Kigali in show of support to the East African nation. Coronavirus: Governor Okowa Goes into Isolation as Daughter Tests Positive

There is coronavirus scare in the Delta state government house as Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, Nigeria has gone into isolation with his family following a positive COVID-19 test result for his daughter. Okowa announced on twitter that one of his daughters had tested positive for coronavirus. He said that his family has gone into isolation in compliance with Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) guideline. “Earlier today, Edith and I received the news that one of our daughters has tested positive for #COVID19. Hence, in-line with the laid out procedures, we are both going into isolation for the next 14-days. “We will continue to keep you all updated,” he wrote.
