Oil Mogul, Peter Mbah Wins Enugu PDP Governorship Ticket

An oil mogul, Dr Peter Mbah has emerged winner of the Enugu State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship primary election. Mbah defeated eight other aspirants after eight withdrew from the election with a total of 790 votes. Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who had announced his withdrawal from participation, only got one vote. The former Chairman of the Committee on Information, House of Representatives, Hon Chijioke Edeoga got nine votes. Enugu Red Cross Trains 20 Volunteers on COVID-19 Risk Communication

The Nigerian Red Cross Society has trained over 20 selected Red Cross volunteers in Enugu State on COVID-19 risk communication and community engagement. The two-day training which was supported by the International Federation of the Red Cross had volunteers from Enugu North, Enugu East and Nkanu West local government areas of the state. Yello Fever: Red Cross Trains 140 on Risk Communication

Following the outbreak of yellow fever in Enugu State, the Nigerian Red Cross Society has trained over 140 volunteers of the organisation in the state on yellow fever risk communication. The training which was supported by the International Federation of the Red Cross was aimed at increasing the knowledge of yellow fever transmission, prevention and control, and support communities to adopt safe behaviours through risk communication and community engagement activities. Enugu State Govt Explains Exemption of Teachers, Other from Payment of Minimum Wage

The government of Enugu State has explained that the reason why some civil servants, including primary school teachers were yet to be paid the new minimum wage was that it was working to fully capture every worker in their payroll. This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Adaona Uyawune during the press briefing on the 2021 Appropriation Law of Enugu State. According to Uyawune, departments and agencies of the state relied on subventions to pay their workers, who were basically ad hoc staff. The state government had begun the payment of the new minimum wage in February 2020, though some workers in departments and agencies of the state government, including primary school teachers, have yet to start enjoying such benefit. Following public outcry over the cancellation of conventional cross-over night activities on 31st December, 2020 in Enugu State, the state government has clarified that "the said cancellation refers strictly to the cross-over night activities organised by the Enugu State Government". The clarification was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh. Enugu Yellow Fever: Fear of Outbreak Grows in Nsukka, Isi-Uzo, Igbo-Etiti LGAs

Following the confirmed cases of Yellow Fever in Enugu Ezike, Igbo North Local Government Area, LGA, of Enugu state by the state government, there are fears the outbreak might have extended to other towns after reports of unusual deaths in Nsukka, Isi-Uzo and Igbo-Etiti LGAs. This was contained in a statement released on Sunday, signed by the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Emmanuel Ikechukwu Obi. Obi said the ministry had already taken samples of individuals suspected to be afflicted by the disease and sent them to the National Reference Laboratory at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja for complete examination.
