President Talon of Benin Wins Controversial Re-election with Wide Margin  

President Patrice Talon of Benin easily rode to victory for a second tenure in office, interim results obtained on Tuesday suggested, following the election that took place during the weekend. Talon, criticized for clamping down on his opponents, was first elected as the country’s president in 2016. He contested the Sunday election against less popular opponents as the majority of his main rivals were either in exile or disqualified from contesting the poll. APC Candidate Wins Jigawa by-election

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammad Adamu, has won Saturday’s State Constituency by-election in Kafinhausa Jigawa State. Adamu got 14,924 votes to defeat the other candidates in the poll. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the election took place in the 120 polling units in the area. The result was declared by Prof. Ahmed Kutama, the Returning Officer, at the collation centre in Kafinhausa Local Government Area. Kutama said the APC candidate defeated his closest rival, Garba Muhammad Tambale, of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 8,612 votes. The electoral officer declared Adamu the winner, having secured the highest number of votes. The candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, Usman Isyak, finished third with 72 votes.

Uganda Election: President Museveni Wins Sixth Term in Office

The incumbent president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni has won a sixth term in office, the Electoral Commission announced on Saturday. Chairperson of the Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama disclosed that Museveni won the election with 58.64 of the total votes. Byabakama also said that Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine finished second with 34.83 per cent of the tallied votes. Patrick Amuriat, who vied under the Democratic Change party was the second runner up with 3.24 per cent of the tallied vote. The victory extends Museveni’s rule for another five-year term since he came to power in 1986.
