Schools in Lagos State to Begin Phased Opening for the 2020/2021 Session from 21/09/2020

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Lagos State Mrs Folasade Adefisayo has announced the plans for *both Public and Private Schools* resumption in the State after the lockdown of schools as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We also wish to congratulate SS 3 students who have successfully completed their WASSCE exams and urge them to stay safe even as they await their results. The Vice-Chancellor of University of Abuja, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah has said Federal government approved the sum of N400m for the building of perimeter fence for the institution. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned against reopening of universities at the moment as it could lead to second wave of COVID-19 in the country. This was disclosed by the Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Dr. Igbana Ajir in Mukurdi, Benue State at the weekend. Schools in Osun to Reopen September 21

Osun State Government on Monday said that schools across the state are set to reopen on September 21, 2020. This was contained in a communique by Mrs Funke Egbemode, Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, after State Executive Council meeting. According to Egbemode, stakeholders should continue to formulate safety protocols towards the reopening of schools in line with guidelines by Federal Ministry of Education. United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has said the COVID-19 induced school closure has created a global education emergency occasioned by the inability of a third of children to access virtual leaning. UNICEF said about 1.5 billion children could not access learning at the peak of lockdowns intended to ameliorate the spread of coronavirus. FG Discloses Plans for Resumption of Tertiary Institutions

The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has said private universities are more prepared for resumption than government owned tertiary institutions. He disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has tasked the Nigerian Government to pay withheld salaries of its members as a precondition to suspension of ongoing industrial action. National President of ASUU, Prof Biodun Ogunyemi while speaking at the unveiling of the union’s Universities Transparency and Accountability Solution at the University of Abuja said making the payment was instrumental to further negotiations with the government over the ongoing strike.
