Some undergraduates have pleaded with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to put them into consideration and suspend the over eight-month strike. The students who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu on Thursday, expressed sadness over the protracted nature of the strike while appealing to the leadership of ASUU to suspend the industrial action. Some of the students said they had become tired and frustrated due to the time wasted any academic achievement. Following months of strike action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Federal Government on Friday bowed to pressure, offering the union ₦65 billion for Earned Academic Allowance and Revitalisation of the nation’s public universities. The Federal Government also agreed to exempt the varsity lecturers from the much-disputed Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information (IPPIS), until the union’s University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) was ready for usage. The Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Greg Nwakoby has said that the management of the institution is making prompt efforts to checkmate the spate of road accidents claiming students' lives along the major road leading to the Igbariam Campus of the school, African News Today gathered.
