Strike: ASUU Yet to Conclude Consultations

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has sought time to conclude consultations with its chapters on Wednesday. The union was expected to communicate its stance on the lingering strike to the federal government last Friday but reports say ASUU asked for an extension of time to Wednesday as it could not collate decisions by all branches last week. Oyetola Renames LAUTECH Teaching Hospital

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has renamed the Akintola University of Technology (LAUCTECH) Teaching Hospital, Osogbo to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital. This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Mr Folorunsho Oladoyin, Commissioner for Education. According to the statement, the Osun State University is to take over the College of Health Sciences and the former LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Osogbo to complement a Teaching Hospital donated by Mr and Mrs Modupe and Folorunso Alakija, which is under construction. Following reports of Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje being appointed as a visiting professor, the East Carolina University has debunked the report, saying the letter issued to the governor was from unauthorised source. Abba Anwar, Ganduje’s spokesperson had on Tuesday claimed the governor’s appointment was contained in a letter sent to him by the varsity through a lecturer of the International Centre for IT and Development, Victor Mbarika, at the university’s College of Business on November 30. ASUU Strike: Call Off Strike, Students Plead with ASUU

Some undergraduates have pleaded with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to put them into consideration and suspend the over eight-month strike. The students who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu on Thursday, expressed sadness over the protracted nature of the strike while appealing to the leadership of ASUU to suspend the industrial action. Some of the students said they had become tired and frustrated due to the time wasted any academic achievement. Following the expiration of the tenure of the Vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), National Universities Commission (NUC) has directed the Governing Council of varsity to appoint an Acting Vice-Chancellor to take over on November 30, 2020. BREAKING: ASUU Reaches Agreement to Call Off Eight Months Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has reached an agreement to call off its eight-month strike action which has halted academic activities in the country’s public varsities. The leadership of ASUU reached the agreement during a meeting with the Federal Government team headed by Dr Chris Ngige, Minister of Labour and Employment on Friday. Part of the agreements was the increment of the total sum to the union to N70 billion. The development comes after the Federal Government a week ago ceded to ASUU’s demand of being left out of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS). Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi has dissolved the Governing Councils of the State University and College of Education. The Boards are headed by Franklin Ogbuewu and a former Minister of State for Health, Fidelis Nwankwo. Umahi also sacked 16 more aides from various local governments.
