FG Withholds Salaries of Academics, Expects to be Begged – ASUU Says as it Threatens Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has urged the Federal Government to implement the agreements reached before the suspension of its 10-month strike to avert a further strike by the union. The union lamented that the government was yet to pay some of its members in several universities, with arrears ranging between three and 14 months being owed. The President of ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, disclosed these in an interview with SundayPunch. FUOYE Suspends Theatre and Media Arts Lecturer Over Alleged Sexual Assault, Probes Another

The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has announced the suspension of a lecturer in the Theater and Media Arts Department, Dr Desen Mbachaga, over alleged sexual assault. This was disclosed by the Chief Information Officer to the Vice-Chancellor, Mr Foluso Ogunmodede, in a statement titled, ‘FUOYE suspends lecturer over alleged sexual harassment'. Contrary to speculations, the National Examination Council, NECO, has clarified that its registrar, Godswill Obioma, died of heart failure. This was contained in a statement issued by the Director, Human resources of NECO, Abdul Mustapha, who debunked reports that the NECO Chief was assassinated but rather died in his sleep as a result of heart failure, Vanguard reports. JAMB Reacts to Speculation of Further Extension of UTME registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has said that it is not considering a further extension of the UTME registration period. The examination body added that a large chunk of the individuals campaigning for an extension to the registration deadline had been identified as fraudsters determined to subvert and undermine the directive of the Federal Government to make the National Identification Number a prerequisite for JAMB registration. JAMB May Shift UTME Date – Oloyede

The possibility of shifting the date for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is very high, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said yesterday. The Registrar of the board, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said during a virtual meeting with 2021 UTME Committee members that  over 600,000 candidates who indicated interest  in sitting for the exams, were yet to register. The exam is scheduled for between June 5 and June 19. He said the candidates were finding it difficult to register due to the challenges of National Identification Number (NIN). The kidnappers of some students of Abia State University, ABSU, Uturu, has released the only student left in their custody who was among scores kidnapped while travelling along the Okigwe-Uturu Road.
