Kinsmen to Testify Against Ex-JAMB Boss Ojerinde in N5.2b Fraud Trial

Two kinsmen of former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Dibu Ojerinde, have agreed to testify for the prosecution in his trial for alleged N5.2 billion fraud. A former JAMB Accountant/Deputy Director (Account), Jimoh Olabisi Olatunde (described as Ojerinde’s kinsman and trusted confidante) and his personal lawyer, Peter Iyiola Oyewole (also described as his kinsman), are listed among the 11 witnessed slated to testify as prosecution witnesses in the case. Twenty-eight students out of the 121 students who were abducted from Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna, were freed on Sunday after being held captive for 20 days. The students were abducted when their school was invaded on July 5, 2021, by bandits. The bandits released the students after collecting N50m as ransom, according to Punch. On Sunday, there was panic among the parents of the remaining students as the Nigerian Baptist Convention said 87 schoolchildren were still with the bandits. Kano Govt Makes NIN Mandatory for Pupils

The Kano State Government has made it compulsory for every pupil in public secondary school to have a National Identification Number, NIN, before they can enrol for any examination. This was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Education, Sanusi Saidu-Kiru. The statement issued by the Chief Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Yusuf, said the staff of the National Identity Management Commission would soon begin the NIN registration across the schools in the state and warned that pupils would not be registered for examinations without obtaining their NIN. Gunmen have released the Provost of the College of Agriculture and Animal Science Bakura, Zamfara, Habibu Mainasara, who was abducted on Sunday. His release was confirmed by his elder brother, Nasiru Mainasara, when he spoke to Channels TV, stating that the provost gained his freedom on Wednesday night after spending three nights in the kidnappers’ den.
