Classroom No fewer than 300,000 teachers in public primary and secondary schools in the country may miss benefiting from the new welfare package the government wants to implement for teachers in its payroll. Findings by the Vanguard revealed that the development is because such teachers are not licensed, certificated and registered by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN.It was gathered that the government has made registration with the TRCN a condition for benefiting from the scheme. Strike: FG May Take ASUU To Court If Reconciliation Fails – Ngige

ASUU-FG Meeting Chris Ngige, minister of labour and employment, says the federal government may consider taking the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to the industrial court if the process to resolve the strike fails. On February 14, ASUU embarked on a one-month warning strike over the non-implementation of an agreement reached with the federal government in 2020. On March 14, the union extended the strike by eight weeks following dissatisfaction with the federal government’s “disappointing” response on the matter.
