Aregbesola Asks Govs To Sign Death Warrants of 3,008 Prisoners Waiting Execution

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has asked state governors to sign the death warrants of the 3,008 condemned criminals waiting for execution, especially those whose appeals had been exhausted and were not mounting challenges to their convictions, as part of measures to decongest prisons nationwide. Aregbesola, who spoke at the inaugurating of the Osun State Command headquarters complex of the Nigeria Correctional Service in Osogbo, stressed the need to bring to closure the cases involving the inmates. Police Arrest 64 in Delta Brothel Raids

Police in Delta say they have arrested 64 suspects in raids on brothels and uncompleted buildings in Asaba, the state capital, in a bid to contain an upsurge in cult wars. Spokesman Bright Edafe, in a statement on Wednesday, said the arrest was the result of the Command’s proactive measures to checkmate the activities of criminals in the state. Edafe said the arrest was the effort of a joint patrol team comprising Division’s A’, ‘B’ in Asaba which have been raiding black spots and criminals’ hideouts, including uncompleted buildings and brothels. The Federal High Court Ikoyi, Lagos State has adjourned till October 5, 2021, for the continuation of the trial of popular Nigerian musician, Afeez Adeshina Fashola, otherwise known as Naira Marley, who is facing trial on an 11-count charge of credit card fraud brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Three Nigerians have been arrested with narcotic drugs, among which was cocaine valued at Rs 25 lakh at Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Friday. A release said officials of the Mira-Bhayander-Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police while acting on an intelligence raided a flat in Hatkesh area of Kashimira on Wednesday. It added that about 100 gms of cocaine and 655 gms of ganja were seized from three Nigerians residing in the flat.
