Nigeria: EFCC Arrests Man for Alleged N150m Money Laundering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos Zonal office, has arrested one Nelson Emuobosa Omo-Ode, for alleged money laundering. Omo-Ode, a 32, Business Administration graduate of the Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan College, Malaysia, was arrested on July 18, 2019 at his residence at The Address Homes, Onikani Foreshore Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, following a petition received by the Commission about his suspicious lifestyle. Investigations showed that over N150, 000,000 (One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira) had passed through his account in recent time, which he could not account for. The Commission recovered a Mercedes SUV from him at the point of arrest. The suspect will be charged to court soon.

Lagos RRS Nabs Suspect Planting Maids to Steal

The Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), a unit of the Lagos State Police Command, has arrested  a suspect who specialised in planting maid in homes to rob their employers of valuables. The man who was identified as Francis Okputu (37), a former dry cleaner operator said to have abandoned his dry cleaning job and took to sourcing house helps for wealthy families. In his confessional statement, Okputu used to go to rural areas to get the girls, who he later distributes to different homes as house helps. Police said the suspect used to plant the girls as maids in wealthy homes, ostensibly to use them to steal from their employers. Following the news making the rounds regarding the arrest of former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha by operatives of the EFCC, the commission has come out to official deny the claim. While responding to questions from journalists, Tony Orilade, EFCC’s acting Head, Media and Publicity described the news as fake. Breaking News: Rochas Okorocha and Wife Arrested by EFCC Operatives

Barely 24 hours after vacating office as the governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha and his wife have both been arrested by men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Officers from the commission raided the former governor's house and effected the arrest. Reports have it that men from the commission have also sealed the former governor's university at Ogboko, Eastern Palm University. During his handover, Rochas had made some statements that indicated he might be aware of some plans to arrest him. He had warned that any attempt to silence him will see him fighting back.
