Gunmen Kidnap Catholic Priest, Seminarian Near Checkpoint, Demand N50m

Father Chinedu Nwadike, the Deputy Registrar of Spiritan University, Nneochi, has been abducted by gunmen. The Catholic priest was abducted on Friday along the Enugu-Okigwe road alongside a seminarian, Emmanuel Nwafor. Punch reports that their abductors are demanding N50m ransom for their release. A family source said, “Rev. Fr. Police Rescue Italian Catholic Priest Abducted In Edo, Kill 3 Suspects

An Italian Catholic Priest, Fr. Luigi Brena, who was kidnapped along Ogunwenyi, Usen community in Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State has been rescued by the police. This was confirmed by Jennifer Iwegbu, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command. Iwegbu said men of the Nigerian police killed three of the suspects after the clergy was abducted on Sunday in the evening.   There have been cases of kidnapping of clergymen in Edo and across Nigeria. Recall that gunmen recently abducted two Catholic priests along the Benin-Auchi Expressway. Suspended Benue Catholic Priest, Alia, Wins APC Guber Ticket

The suspended Benue Catholic Priest, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has clinched the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue state. Rev. Father Alia picked the ticket of the party after defeating 11 other aspirants at the end of the direct primary election of the party held across the state on Friday, May 27. From the results collated Saturday at the APC Secretariat by the Election Committee, the Priest polled a total of 526,807 votes to defeat his closest rival, Dr. Mathias Byuan who polled 113,816 votes. Benue Catholic Church Suspends Priest Over Partisan Politics

The Catholic diocese of Gboko, Benue State has suspended a priest, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, for participating in partisan politics. Alia is a frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Benue State. He has picked the APC N50m nomination form. This was made know in a disclaimer released by the Bishop of Gboko diocese, William A. Avenya, yesterday. The church said the suspension of Alia takes immediate effect. A Malawi Catholic priest, a policeman and a hospital worker are among a dozen convicted over the 2018 gruesome murder of a man with albinism. Five out of the 12 were found guilty of killing MacDonald Masambuka, 22, at the height of a crime spree that saw more than 40 murders and 145 assaults on people with the condition in the country. The priest, Masambuka’s brother, a police officer and a hospital employee were convicted of selling human body parts. “MacDonald was betrayed by those he had trust in, namely the brother, the priest, the policeman and the clinical officer.
