Former Anambra SSG Tests Positive For COVID -19

Former Secretary to the State government SSG, during former Governor Peter Obi’s administration in Anambra State, Mr Oseloka Obaze, has tested positive for coronavirus. Obaze, who was the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party PDP during the 2017 governorship election, said Wednesday in Awka in a statement that he was not having any symptoms. According to the statement, which was signed by himself and made available to The Nation, said he had reached out to those he had come in contact with recently to isolate themselves. The Federal Government has declared Friday 25, Monday 28 December 2020 and Friday, January 1, 2021 as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year Celebrations respectively. President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to meet with members of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 Tuesday afternoon, the Presidency has said. This was disclosed in a tweet by @NGRPresident stating; “@MBuhari will meet with the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 this afternoon.” The meeting, The Nation gathered will hold at the Aso Villa in Abuja, and it is coming at a time the country is battling the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. BREAKING: Gridlock as Fuel Tanker Bursts into Flames on Otedola Bridge

There is heavy traffic at the Berger-Alausa-Magodo axis of Lagos State after a fuel tanker burst into flames on Otedola bridge, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Saturday. Reports in the media have it that the incident happened a few minutes to 6pm. The incident caused panic on the expressway as many vehicles made U-turn in a bid to avoid being engulfed by the fire. Some passengers were also seen alighting from vehicles hurriedly. Many passengers were also stranded at the Alausa Secretariat and toll gate bus stops. As of the time of filling this report, details of the fire incident are sketchy.

BREAKING: COVID-19 Second Wave: Sanwo-Olu Shuts Down Schools Until Further Notice

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed that all public and private schools in the state be shut down until further notice. The governor disclosed this in a statement on Friday. He also directed all public servants from Grade Level 14 and below, except emergency workers and first responders, to work from home for the next 14 days starting from Monday next week – in the first instance. Sanwo-Olu also stressed that concerts, carnivals and street parties were banned in Lagos until further notice. According to him, night clubs have not been allowed to open yet and all night clubs in the state should be shut down indefinitely with immediate effect. The Katsina State Government on Thursday night at about 9pm announced the release of the 333 boys of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara who were abducted when bandits invaded the School on Friday December 11, 2020. Zamfara State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has suspended its one week strike it embarked on to protest poor remuneration. The Chairman, Dr. Mannir Bature, announced the suspension in a statement in Gusau on Tuesday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NMA on December 10 directed its members to embark on a one-week strike. “I write to inform the public that the NMA has suspended the one-week strike it embarked upon last Thursday,’’ Bature said. CJN Tests Positive for COVID-19

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Tanko Muhammad has tested positive for COVID-19. The CJN is presently in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, receiving treatment. A member of the Supreme Court, Justice Ibrahim Saulawa disclosed this at the unveiling of the national headquarters of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN) on Tuesday in Abuja. Justice Muhammad was absent at the swearing – in of 72 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria on Monday.
