AfDB Election: Adesina Re-Elected as President

President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwunmi Adesina has been re-elected for a second tenure. He was re-elected by the Board of Governors of the Bank at the ongoing AfDB’s virtual annual meeting in Abuja on Thursday. It was disclosed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Media, Lauretta Onochie on Twitter. Onochie wrote, “Our very own Akinwumi Akin Adesina has been reaffirmed as the President of the African Development Bank. “Thank you to our supportive President @MBuhari who mobilized support for our own Adesina and why not! Adesina has been proven to be above boards.” Recall that Adesina was recently cleared of misconduct by an Independent Review Committee set up to probe his administration after a complaint by the United States.

Mutinying Soldiers Arrest Mali’s President and Prime Minister

Mutinying solders have reportedly arrested Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Prime Minister Boubou Cisse. Clips have surfaced on social media showing a convoy of vehicles surrounded by troops with a statement by a leader of the mutinying soldiers confirming the arrest. "We can tell you that the president and the prime minister are under our control," the leader, who requested anonymity, told AFP. He added that the pair had been "arrested" at Keita's residence in the capital Bamako. Earlier, Cisse urged mutinying soldiers to stand down and called for dialogue to resolve the situation. Enugu State’s Civil Servants to Resume Work August 3 -Governor Ugwuanyi

The Governor Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has asked all civil servants in the state to resume work on Monday, August 3, 2020. The directive was contained in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya. In the statement, the state government advised returning civil servants to observe all Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) protocols for containment of the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), “including hand washing with soap, use of alcohol-based hand sanitizer, compulsory use of face shield/mask and maintaining social distancing”. The independent committee inaugurated to examine the report of the Ethics Committee of the Board of Directors on the accusations made by the whistle blowers against the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, has cleared the bank’s president of any wrongdoing. The top-class independent review committee headed by Mrs. Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland, turned in its report on Monday. The screening committee set up by the All Progressive Congress (APC) has disqualified incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki from contesting the party’s forthcoming primary election. The chairman of the screening panel- Jonathan Ayuba disclosed this update during presentation of their report to the national chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja on Friday. The committee screened six aspirants which included Obaseki, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Pius Odubu, chris Ogiemwonyi, Osaro Obazee and Mathew Iduoriyekemwen.
