Gov. Soludo Debunks News on Gold Discovery in Anambra

Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, says the news of a large deposit of gold discovered in the state is false. A publication recently claimed that a gold reserve was discovered in the state and was estimated to be over 20 million tonnes which is valued at over $900 trillion. According to the alleged false report, Governor Soludo, who was described as the chairman of the South East Governor’s Forum, disclosed to journalists that gold was discovered at Ehamufu. Suspected cultists wielding guns and other dangerous weapons disrupted a meeting that was scheduled to be held between the Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, and tricycle operators, on Thursday. Obiano Meets Bail Conditions, May Regain Freedom Today

The former governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, may soon regain his freedom from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. A source told The Guardian that the former governor has met the administrative bail conditions given to him by the anti-graft agency. A senior official at the commission told The Guardian that a thorough verification of some of the documents Obiano submitted in fulfilment of the bail terms was being carried out by operatives of the commission. Immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, who was arrested on Thursday night at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, en route United States of America, has been denied administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to EFCC sources, Obiano is being interrogated and detained over alleged embezzlement of funds during his eight-year tenure as governor. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday moved ex-Governor Willy Obiano from Lagos to Abuja for quizzing over alleged N42 billion fraud. Obiano was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja on Thursday night a few hours after he handed over power to Prof. Charles Soludo in Awka, and subsequently lost his immunity from arrest. The former governor was said to be on his way to the United States where he was residing before his election eight years ago. He is alleged to have mismanaged his security vote while in office. The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, on Friday, hailed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for arresting former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos. Obiano was reportedly on his way out of the country to Houston, Texas in the United States after handing over to his successor, Governor Charles Soludo. Police Foil Unknown Gunmen Attack On Anambra Police Station

The Anambra State police command has foiled an attack by unknown gunmen who stormed the Uli Police Station in Ihiala local government area. The attackers stormed the station in a black coloured Lexus 330 car, but were repelled by the superior firepower of the officers on duty, thus forcing the gunmen to run away. Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga said the operational vehicle of the gunmen was recovered by the police.It was gathered that the gunmen headed back to Mgbidi in Imo State from where they came from.
