EFCC Raid: No Cause for Alarm, Says Ambode

Former governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, on Tuesday urged his supporters and the general public to remain calm and law-abiding as there was no cause for alarm. Ambode, in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Habib Aruna, spoke on the backdrop of a search by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on his Epe Country home and Parkview Ikoyi residence, where the anti-graft agency conducted the exercise without any incident. He said the Commission, till date, has not opened any direct communication with him on any issue, adding that he was ready and willing to respond if or when they do so. Protest as EFCC Allegedly Raids Ambode’s House in Epe

Epe Residents in Lagos State on Tuesday protested as EFCC operatives raided the house of the former Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode. Tony Orilade, EFCC spokesman, has confirmed the development to the media. As at the time of filing the story, his house is currently being searched including the house of one of top aide to Ambode who resides at Agric area in Papa, Epe. It would be recalled that the EFCC, had on August 7, 2019, said it had frozen three bank accounts linked to the immediate past Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, containing a total of N9.9 billion. Nigeria: Ikeja NBA Gives Lagos Seven-day Ultimatum to Reverse Land Use Charge

The Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch, has given the Lagos State Government a seven-day ultimatum to reverse the recent hike in Land Use Charge. The Chairman, NBA Ikeja Branch, Mr. Adesina Ogunlana, said in a statement on Wednesday that the association was set to embark on a mass protest tagged: ‘Hell Tax Must Go’ against the new tax regime. Ogunlana stated that the NBA was strongly opposed to the LUC, which he described as an “excessive and arbitrary tax regime” calculated at turning Lagos State into a “toxic environment and a living hell” for the residents. He said the association would give Governor Akinwunmi Ambode till next Monday to retrace his steps on the LUC, failing which its members would hit the streets on Tuesday. The Lagos State Building Control Agency has sealed a zonal headquarters of the Redeemed Christian Church of God under construction in Ajegunle, a hotel in Ikeja and six other buildings for illegal development and breaking government seal. The RCCG parish, located on Old Ojo Road in Ajegunle, was accused of breaking government’s seal after a stop-work notice was served. Four other buildings on Old Ojo Road were sealed for the same offence. A shopping centre in Ajeromi was also sealed for erecting a third floor without approval. A plaza being erected in the Boundary area of the state and two buildings by the same developer on Chidi Street, Ajegunle, were sealed.
