Okezie Ikpeazu Condemns IPOB Sit At Home Order

Abia state governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has urged The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) to tone down its agitations saying the lockdown enforced in most south Eastern states today, August 9 is detrimental to Igbo people. Some angry traders at the popular Umuahia Timber Market, Abia State, yesterday set ablaze the office of the state Vigilante Service (AVGS) aka “Bakassi Boys” situated within the market. Our correspondent gathered that the traders burnt down the AVGS office after the Bakassi boys killed a trader early yesterday. The incident happened as the traders squabbled with the state Board of Internal Revenue Service (ABIRS) which sealed shops over nonpayment of N18,000 fee. Gunmen on Saturday evening attacked the facility of Abia State Police Criminal Investigation Department located at the Ugwunchara axis of Umuahia, the Abia State capital. Sources said that the gunmen arrived the SCID facility in a Toyota Sienna with some of the gunmen who were Stark naked and others dressed in black attire with red scarf carrying AK7. Gunmen in the early hours of Monday razed Ubakala police station in Apumiri community, Ubakala in Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State. The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Aba North/South Federal Constituency bye-election, Mr Chimobi Ebisike, the winner of the Saturday polls and returned him elected. He polled a total of 10,322 votes to defeat his closest challenger and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, chief Mascot Uzor Kalu who scored 3,674 votes.
