Nigerian midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has secured a transfer to Danish premier league side, Sonderjyke on a one-year contract.

This was announced on the club’s social media account on Sunday.

The club wrote, “Sønderjyke Fotbol signs a contract with the former Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi.”

It added, “The 27-year-old Nigerian midfielder has signed a contract with Sønderjyke for the rest of the current season with an option for an extension of two more seasons.”

Onazi was set to seal a move to newly-prompted side Crotone but the deal fell apart after failure to agree on personal terms.

The club’s sports director, Hans Jorgen Haysen expressed delight with the signing of the Super Eagles midfielder.

He said, “He is a player with a crazy CV and has played a lot of matches in Serie A, also in the Turkish league, having played a lot of national team matches.

“When he is standing here today, it is due to the injury that put a dent in the wheel for him in 2019, and that is our luck because otherwise, we would not have been close to picking up a player with that CV.

“We have been looking for a midfielder who has different prerequisites than those we already have, and it has been crucial that we have brought something in here at the end of the transfer window.”

Reacting to the deal Onazi said, ”I am very happy to have signed here in Sønderjyke, and I am grateful that the club has given me this opportunity.

“I hope I can make a difference and my ambition is to help the team finish as high as possible in the table.

“I am a player who likes to take responsibility and work hard for things, and I will do the same here in Sønderjyke.”
