Officers of the Department of State Services today stormed a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja in an attempt to rearrest Omoyele Sowore, convener of the Revolution Now Movement, and his co-defendant, Bakare.

In an unprecedented event, lawyers and other onlookers witnessed a total disrespect for the judiciary as even the Judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, had to be escorted to her chambers as a result of the disruption.

Sowore’s supporters fully resisted the attempt at rearresting him even after the court had expressly ordered that he be released and the DSS fined N100,000.00. The presiding Judge, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, had yesterday threatened the Director of the DSS with arrest for the continued flaunting of court orders and Nigerians had thought that the DSS had finally decided to obey when he was released yesterday.

The attempt at resisting the rearrest of Sowore by the DSS resulted in him being driven to the office of the DSS by his lawyer, Femi Falana. According to Falana, the DSS said they just need Sowore to answer a few questions. He has however confirmed that Sowore has now been detained by the DSS after their arrival at their offices.

According to Falana, the DSS claim that fresh charges have been filed against him though the details of these fresh charges have not been made known to the defense team or anyone else for that matter.
