Four patients over the period of four weeks had successful heart surgeries at the Jos University Teaching Hopsital, Jos Plateau State.

According to the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Professor Edmund Banwat, the surgeries which are milestones in the nation’s health delivery services, took place in the hospitals main theatre.

He said “We have made a bold statement that cardiac hear surgery is very possible here in Jos University Teaching Hospital. We have exceeded our expectations. Achieving this great feat would not have been possible without all of you here.”

Though the surgeries which consisted of two closed and two open heart surgeries were carried out by a combined team which included experts from outside the country, Professor Banwat noted the capacity of the teaching hospital had increased with the experience as there was a transfer of skill from the visiting experts to the locally based professionals.
