Coach of the Super Falcons, Randy Waldrum has said that the Black Queens of Ghana will be a hard knot in the first round of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, AWCON, qualifiers.
The Super Falcons are the most ranked in women’s football in Africa according to FIFA while Ghana are ranked number four.
Nigeria have won the AWCON a record 11 times, the Black Queens on the other hand have won the silver medal three times.
In the event that the Falcons beat Ghana, the Randy Waldrum coached team will battle the winner between Niger and Ivory Coast to qualify for the tournament proper.
Waldrum in an interview with Sportnews Africa, said that the team are ready to face the tough challenge against Ghana.
He said that the Super Falcons will do everything to ensure that they overcome their West African neighbour.
He said, “I think you always embrace the challenge. Obviously, this is a difficult draw, we have a lot of respect for Ghana, and we know the strength and power of that team.
“I know several of the results over the years against Ghana and I understand, as I mentioned earlier, the strength of this team, so we have a lot of respect for them.
“I think right now, the focus is more on preparing our team properly, and as we get closer then we will start to prepare a little bit more for Ghana.”
