Opinion: A Word for Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah – Fani-Kayode

“If it is Fulani today, yesterday it was the Igbos”- Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah. I have immense respect for Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah but to compare the situation of the Fulani in the south today to the situation of the Igbo in the north in 1966 is disingenuous and intellectually dishonest. The Igbo did not slaughter the Fulani in the 1966 northern pogroms but rather it was the Fulani that slaughtered the Igbo. In 1966 alone no less than 100,000 innocent and defenceless Igbos were butchered by the Fulani and other northerners in the north. Today it is again the Fulani that are slaughtering thousands of Igbo, Yoruba and other southerners all over the south. They are also killing Middle Belters. The south and the Middle Belt do not have a tradition of killing the innocent and the d...

Nigeria: Get Obasanjo Arrested, He Doesn’t Mean Well for the Country – Miyetti-Allah

In a letter dated July 15, Obasanjo asked the president to take decisive action on insecurity, saying the situation could degenerate into a full-blown crisis if not tackled appropriately. Obasanjo said rather than “hammer” the farmer-herder crisis, the impression is that the government of Buhari is treating it with kid gloves. Reacting to this letter in an interview with PUNCH, Alhassan Saleh, national secretary of Miyetti Alla Hore, asked Obasanjo to offer any information he has in order to solve the security crisis. “The fact that there is insecurity, I don’t think the Fulani are responsible for it. The narrative that we are responsible for the insecurity is even the problem we have with the Nigerian state,” he said. “When any crime happens, even before there is an investigat...

Opinion: You are a Disgrace to the Noble Yoruba Ancestry – Nnamdi Kanu to Tinubu

You cannot sacrifice the blood of your brethren on the shrine of your greed, conceit and unbridled 2023 presidential political ambition. You are a disgrace to the noble Yoruba ancestry. You allow your self-centred avarice and ego to stifle the aspirations and destiny of your people. I must remind you today that your Fulani masters will never do for you what you are slavishly doing for them. You know in your heart of hearts that murderous Fulani herdsmen are culpable in the brutal murder of a Yoruba daughter and that Igbos had no hand in the Ore Highway Massacre. An influential Yoruba newspaper (PUNCH) reported that nearby villagers, who are Yorubas, informed police that the killer Fulani herdsmen have their base in a nearby forest. These are eye witness account from Yoruba people living...

Nigeria: UK Report Indicts Buhari on Killings of Thousands of Christians

The global independent report on the persecution of Christians authored by the Rt. Rev. Philip Mounstephen Bishop of Truro in the United Kingdom was recently concluded and submitted to the Government of the United Kingdom. The report was concluded on July 4, 2019. In its examination of the killings in Nigeria, IT focused on the killings from Fulani herdsmen along the middle belt regions of the country. It cited the unwarranted killings of unarmed Christians by Fulani herdsmen who are often armed with sophisticated weapons. It observed that the security structure in Nigeria appears reluctant to go after the attackers. The military is more tuned to go after the victims – the report claims. The report cites that Christians are clearly suffering persecution. The report claims the Buhari ...

Nigeria: Buhari, Southern Governors Given 30-Day Ultimatum on RUGA by Northern Youths

Following the decision taken by President Buhari to suspend RUGA implementation, a group known as the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has given the President and Southern Governors 30 days to do an about face on the suspension, accept and implement the plan. Giving the ultimatum, the group said the conspiracy to weaken the North had been perpetrated with the active connivance of some leaders from the region, accommodated by the cowardice of those that present themselves as northern political leaders today and feed on the negligence and insincerity of the federal authorities. “Throughout the last four years, the administration of President Buhari had twisted and wobbled deceitfully around the visibly stewing security situation in Northern Nigeria, especially the herders and farmers...

Opinion Buhari’s Ruga Insult By Lasisi Olagunju

On October 18, 1990, the United States, in a National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), predicted the end of a country which was behaving almost as Nigeria is behaving now. It said, “Yugoslavia will cease to function as a federal state within a year, and will probably dissolve within two. Economic reform will not stave off the breakup. A full-scale inter-republic war is unlikely, but serious intercommunal conflict will accompany the breakup and will continue afterward. The violence will be intractable and bitter. There is little the United States and its European allies can do to preserve Yugoslav unity.” That country called Yugoslavia ceased to exist in 1992 –within exactly two years as predicted by the US. I wonder what the authors of that report are writing about Nigeria this moment. Ana...

Opinion: Let’s Talk RUGA aka Fulani Cattle Colonies by Nnamdi Elekwachi

The Buhari Administration has commenced construction of Cattle Colonies, rebranded “RUGA” in 36 States of Nigeria. The project has started in Kotongora, Niger State on a 31,000-hectare piece of land.  The project will be initially replicated in 12 States with six (6) of such colonies to be constructed in each State. What is RUGA aka Cattle Colony? RUGA or Cattle Colony is a SETTLEMENT for Fulani Herdsmen, their families  and cattle/livestock. It will contain ranches, grass or feed farms, abattoirs, dairy, meat and skin/leather processing plants, housing, religious houses, schools, roads, power and water supplies and the complete range of infrastructure required to support and sustain an ultra-modern local government area . Okay, lets talk now FACTS FIRST. 1. Taking a cue fro...

Press Release: For the Records – What VP Osinbajo Said on Kidnapping

Nowhere was the word exaggerated used Our attention has been drawn to misleading reports in a section of the media purportedly made by and attributed to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, on the security situation in Nigeria, in New York.  For the purpose of clarity, and the records it is pertinent to state that Prof. Osinbajo was entirely misquoted and his words taken out of context in the said media reports especially those that quoted him as saying that "Kidnapping in Nigeria is exaggerated and not entirely new"  Nowhere in the Vice President's remarks at the townhall meeting with the Nigerian community did he use the word "exaggerated," not even by implication.  His remarks about the social media being hysterical was a general response to comments made by participants at th...

Boko Haram: 30 Killed in Konduga Following Multiple Suicide Bombings

Thirty people were killed late Sunday in multiple suicide bombing in northeast Nigeria, emergency services reported, in an attack bearing the hallmarks of the Boko Haram jihadist group. Three bombers detonated their explosives outside a hall in Konduga, 38 kilometres (24 miles) from the Borno state capital Maiduguri, where football fans were watching a match on TV. “The death toll from the attack has so far increased to 30. We have over 40 people injured,” Usman Kachalla, head of operations at the State Emergency Management Agency, said on Monday. An earlier toll from the blasts, the bloodiest in months, gave 17 dead and 17 wounded. The attack happened around 9:00 pm (1800 GMT), Ali Hassan, the leader of a self-defence group in the town, said. The owner of the hall prevented...
