The Nigerian Police today paraded eight men who are suspected to have been part of the kidnapping of the Chibok girls. The eight suspects were part of a group of 22 men paraded by the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu. According to Mr Chukwu, the 22 men that were paraded were members of the Boko Haram sect and were responsible for various crimes including the kidnapping of the Chibok girls and over 50 suicide bombings. The Commissioner praised the Inspector General of Police (IGP)’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT) led by DCP Abba Kyari, saying it was their act of gallantry that led to the successful arrest of the suspects. The Nigerian government says it will negotiate for the release of 110 abducted schoolgirls rather than use military force. The students were seized last month from their school in the town of Dapchi by the militant group Boko Haram. However, the Nigerian authorities know that sending troops and aircraft in pursuit of the jihadists holding the abducted school girls is an extremely risky strategy. President Muhammadu Buhari said the government had chosen negotiation over the military option and Nigeria was working with international organisations and negotiators to ensure that the girls were released unharmed by their captors.
