Rape in Nigeria: Police, NHRC, NAPTIP Advocate Accelerated Hearing Of Rape Cases

A joint statement by the Police, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has called for accelerated hearing of rape cases in Nigeria. This comes on the back of several rape charges in the country. The call was made in a statement issued after a meeting by the organisations at the Force Headquarters on Saturday in Abuja, Nigeria. Tony Ojukwu, Executive Secretary of NHRC disclosed that the spate of rape accusations had necessitated joint sector action at combating the vice and hopefully curb the rate of rape. Northern Elders’ Forum Blasts Buhari, Says He Has Failed the North

The Northern Elders' Forum led by Professor Ango Abdullahi has in a statement decried the spate of killings that have overtaken the North, leading to a daily loss of lives. In his statement, Abdullahi noted among other things that the North had never had a security problem this bad and that all the President did was issue threats and warnings to no effect. He therefore said that the President had woefully failed to address the welfare and security of citizens. Security: Katsina Communities Again Raided by Bandits

Kasidau, Maigora and many nearby settlements in Katsina state have been attached by bandits in the late hours of Tuesday, 9 June, 2020. Information said sporadic shots were fired, people scampered for safety while the bandits burnt houses and rustled a yet to be identified number of cattle. The communities are part of Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State. Recently, inhabitants of Yantumaki town in Danmusa Local Government Area had expressed their displeasure over the spate of attacks and killings in the state.
