Burkina Faso Government Declares Two-day Mourning After 41 Killed In Ambush

The government of Burkina Faso has declared a two-day mourning period as suspected militants killed at least 41 members of a government-backed civilian militia in the country's desert north. AFP reports that the militants on Thursday ambushed a column of civilian fighters from the Homeland Defence Volunteers (VDP), a group the government funds and trains to contain Islamist insurgents. According to the authorities, the attack was one of the heaviest single-day losses the civilian militia has experienced to date. Uche Nwosu: Police Confirm Arrest Of Okorocha’s Son-In-Law

The police have arrested the 2019 governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), Uche Nwosu. Nwosu, a son-in-law to former Imo Governor, Rochas Okorocha, was picked up on Sunday. It was initially thought that the politician was kidnapped by armed men. In a statement, Imo Police Command Public Relations Officer, Michael Abattam, confirmed Nwosu was in custody. The Chief Superintendent said the announcement was to allay fears about his Nwosu’s whereabouts. Abattam further appealed to the general public “to always shun fake news”.  It was gathered that the one time Chief of Staff to Okorocha was arrested in connection with a case being probed. The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 11 criminal suspects for different offences, including murder, kidnapping, child trafficking, armed robbery and stealing. Parading the suspects on Thursday at the state police headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abubakar Lawal, told journalists that they were arrested within the month. Among the 11 suspects were Odoh Tochukwu, Ifenyinwa Okonkwo and Ogbodo Emmanuel, who were alleged to be fraudsters who specialised in stealing vehicles from car dealers with fake bank alerts. Gunmen Abduct DSS Officer, Kill Vigilante Member In Abuja

Gunmen have abducted a Department of State Services operative during an attack on residents in Abaji, Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Saturday. The hoodlums also killed a vigilante member during the incident which occurred overnight. The armed men were said to have invaded the community in their numbers and attacked a DSS outpost in the area. During the exchange of gunshots with the DSS operatives, the gunmen successfully kidnapped an operative. The FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said she did not have information on the incident and referred inquiries to the DSS.
