Nigeria: Senator President Implicated in Offa Bank Robbery

The Nigerian Police Force has invited the Nigerian Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki to answer some questions regarding the Offa robbery which led to the death of a total of about 33 persons, nine of which were Police officers. According to the Police, the invitation became necessary when some of the arrested suspects confessed to being political thugs to the Senate President. Nigeria: Fresh Attack by Armed Herdsmen Leave Eight Dead

About eight persons have been killed in a fresh attack by armed herdsmen in Tseadough village in Kwande local council of Benue State. The attack which took place on Saturday night left seven persons dead and six injured. One of the injured later died at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital where they were rushed to for treatment. According to the Local Government chairman, a number of homes were burnt down and a woman was kidnapped. There has however not been an official statement regarding the attack.

Uganda: President Museveni Imposes Tax on Social Media Usage to Curb Gossip

A new law has been passed by the Ugandan parliament to impose a social media tax on its citizens. The law which is billed to take effect from 1 July will see Ugandans paying 200 shillings ($0.05) as daily levy for the use of social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and others. While pushing for the law, President Yoweri Museveni said that the use of these social media platforms greatly increased gossip. The President said the funds that will be generated from this tax will help the government manage the effects of gossip locally known as "olugambo".
