Breaking News: Senator Abaribe Arrested by DSS

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has been arrested by men of the Department of State Services (DSS). Senator Abaribe is the Senator representing Abia South in the upper house of the National Assembly. It is not yet clear why he was arrested but as at the time of filing this report, his home in Abuja has been cordoned off by officers of the DSS. It appears the men of the DSS are about to carry out a search of the residence. It will be recalled that the Senator is one of those that stood surety for Nnamdi Kanu, and had been instructed to produce him before the next hearing of his case.

Nigeria: Makarfi to Run for President in 2019

"After wide consultations with party men and women as well as other major stakeholders, I have decided to seek the party’s nomination to contest the poll." With this announcement, the former governor of Kaduna State and former Senator threw in his hat into the race for the Presidency of Nigeria come 2019. Makarfi made this announcement at a press briefing which took place today Sunday June 17th. He will run under the platform of the People's Democratic Party, bringing the number of known contenders under the party to two. The first being former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

World Cup: Russia Opens 2018 FIFA World Cup with a 5:0 Win Over Saudi Arabia

Hosts Russia began their World Cup campaign on a positive note with a convincing 5:0 win over Saudi Arabia. Iury Gazinsky scored the first goal of the tournament in the 12th minute, relieving the Russians of some pressure. Denis Cheryshev doubled their lead in the 43rd minute sending the Russian fans into a frenzy. The Saudi's fought back in the second half, having a lot of possession but not doing much with. The Spanish FA today announced the sack of its head coach Julen Lopetegui. The sack of the Spanish coach was a direct outcome of Real Madrid's announcement yesterday. Real Madrid had yesterday named Lopetegui as their new manager. The announcement which took the Spanish FA by surprise was seen as improper. Julen Lopetegui had only three weeks ago, signed a 3-year deal with the Spanish FA. By signing Julen Lopetegui, Real Madrid was going to pay the €2 million buy out clause of his contract with the Spanish FA. Following the rumoured death of the leader of the gang that carried out the Offa robbery that claimed about 33 persons, some Civil Society Organizations have called on the Police to produce him or face legal action. The leader of the gang, Michael Adikwu who is a former Police officer was rumoured to have been shot by the Police in custody as a means of getting confessions from the others. While making their demand, the CSOs said "If he (Adikwu) has been killed, the police should come clean and name his executors, this is in keeping with the Freedom of Information Act (FOI)," the petition said. Breaking: Ex-Plateau State Governor, Joshua Dariye Sentenced to 14 Years Imprisonment

Mr Joshua Dariye, former governor of Plateau state has sentenced to a 14 year jail term by an Abuja high court. Mr Dariye who was a governor of Plateau state between 1999 and 2007 was charged to by the EFCC on July 13, 2007 on a 23 count charge for money laundering allegedly diverting the State’s 1.126 billion Naira ecological funds. He was today June 12, 2018 found guilty of criminal misappropriation for which he was sentenced to a 2 year jail term and for criminal breach of trust for which he was sentenced to 14 years.
