Present 2021 Budget before September, Senate tells Buhari

The President of Nigeria’s Senate, Ahmed Lawan, has implored President Muhammadu Buhari to submit 2021 national budget before the end of September, 2020 to afford lawmakers ample time to deliberate on it. Lawan made this call while delegating the 2021-2023 Media Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper to the relevant committees of the Senate for necessary evaluation. The framework was submitted on Tuesday by President Buhari. He said that the September deadline would afford the National Assembly enough time to complete necessary works and pass the budget before the end of December. NDDC Defends Collapse of Acting MD, Pondei at Reps Hearing

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has attributed the collapse of its acting Managing Director, Prof. Keme Pondei, to a medical condition which his doctors have warned him against. Charles Odili, Director, Corporate Affairs said in a statement that Pondei went against the warning of his doctors who had warned him against attending the hearing given his medical condition. Odili said that his state of health had degenerated after two weeks of illness prompting the instruction from his doctors. Nigeria’s lower legislative chamber, the House of Representatives has issued a warrant of arrest for the Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Kemebradikumo Daniel Pondei for staging a walk-out during a house committee hearing on the mismanagement of funds in the commission. The lawmakers ordered the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu to immediately effect his arrest. Nigeria’s House of Representatives have asked the Federal Government to reconsider its position on the cancellation of the 2020 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE). Their position was contained in a statement released in Abuja by the Chairman of the   House Committee on Basic Education and Services, Julius Ihonvbere (APC-Edo) on Friday. Senate Urges FG to Rename Ibadan Airport after Ajimobi

The Nigerian Senate has made a call to the Federal Government to rename the Ibadan Airport, Oyo state after the deceased former governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi. Senator Abdulfatahi Buhari moved a motion on the floor of the Senate to its effect which was seconded by Senator Ibikunle Amosun and thereafter adopted by the house. Senator Buhari praised the effort of Senator Ajimobi towards the development of Oyo state. Ajimobi represented his constituency in the 5th Senate from 2003 to 2017. Nigerian President Buhari Seeks Senate’s Approval for Ambassadorial Nominees

Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has sought the approval of 41 Non-Career & 1 Career Ambassadorial nominees by the senate. Buhari appointed a nominee from Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, as career ambassador and  41 others as non-career ambassadors. Among the non-career nominees are, former minister, Ademola Seriki (Lagos), Debo Adesina (Oyo), Dare Sunday-Awoniyi (Kogi), among others. Buhari asked the senate to approve the appointment of three nominees as commissioners in the Federal Civil Service Commission in another letter. Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education has forwarded a detailed proposal to the National Assembly on its plan for resumption of schools across Nigeria. This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba when he met with the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education.
