Police Extend Recruitment Exercise, Beg Nigerians To Apply

The Nigeria Police Force has extended the recruitment exercise for 2021 to Saturday, January 22, 2022. This was contained in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, on Wednesday. According to the police spokesperson, the extension will give fresh opportunity to Nigerians to apply for the vacancies. The NPF urged governments, religious leaders and national stakeholders to encourage and mobilise their people to apply. Nigerian Manufacturers’ Association Kicks Against Imposition Of Taxes On Carbonated, Soft Drinks

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has kicked against the imposition of taxes on soft drinks. The association warned that excise duty would lead to 0.43 per cent contraction in output and 40 per cent drop on industry revenues in the next five years. The Minister of Finance and Budget Planning, Zainab Ahmed, had announced the imposition of N10 tax per litre on all non-alcoholic, carbonated and sweetened beverages. Ahmed had stated that it was part of the government’s efforts to prevent and discourage excessive consumption of sugar due to health concerns. FG Increases Hazard Allowance From N5,000 To N40,000 For Doctors, N34,000 For Others

The Federal Government has increased the hazard allowance for medical doctors and health workers in the country. It was gathered that while the government increased the allowance for doctors from N5,000 to between N32,000 and N40,000; other health workers like nurses, laboratory workers among others had theirs reviewed to between N15,000 and N34,000. This was contained in a circular with reference number SWC/S/04/S.218/11/406 dated December 22, 2021 and signed by the Executive Chairman of the National Salaries, Wages and Income Commission. Subsidy: NLC Fixes Jan 27, Feb 1 For Nationwide Protests

The Nigeria Labour Congress has warned the Federal Government against plans to remove the fuel subsidy in 2022, saying the action will be met with nationwide protests.  The congress said the planned rallies would commence without warning should the FG announce new fuel prices next year. The union disclosed it would stage a protest across the 36 states of the federation on January 27, 2022, which would culminate in the submission of protest letters to all the state governors. It said this would be followed on February 1 with another nationwide protest that will also hold in Abuja. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has directed district managers to be prepared to shut down train stations plying Abuja-Kaduna, Lagos-Ibadan and Warri-Itakpe routes in the event that workers down tools. The National Association of Resident Doctors has suspended its nationwide strike. The strike which began on August 2 has been suspended with effect from 8am, Wednesday, according to the President of the association, Dr Godiya Ishaya. 353 Nigerian Doctors Employed By UK in Three Months Amid Ongoing Strike In Nigeria

About 353 Nigerian doctors have migrated to the United Kingdom to work in the last 100 days. According to Punch, checks on the website of the General Medical Council – the body which licenses and maintains the official register of medical practitioners in the UK – showed that the GMC licensed at least 353 Nigerian-trained doctors between June 10, 2021 and September 20, 2021. The statistics also showed that between July 24, 2020 and September 21, 2021, about 862 Nigeria trained doctors were licensed in the UK despite the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, 8, 737 doctors who obtained their degrees in Nigeria currently practise in the UK.
