Protest in Zimbabwe: US Summons Zanu-PF Spokesperson Over Comments

The United states has summoned spokesman of the ruling Zanu-PF party in Zimbabwe after his disparaging comments about the US ambassador in Harare. Patrick Chinamasa, spokesperson of the ruling Zanu-PF party, on Monday labeled US Ambassador Brian Nicholls “a thug” and threatened to expel him. He accused the US envoy of inciting anti-corruption protests in the country. Tibor Nagy, top US diplomat for Africa said, “Comments from Zanu-PF — while sadly not surprising — are deeply offensive.” “We have summoned the ambassador of Zimbabwe to explain,” he wrote on Twitter. The administration of President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been battling with a host of protesters who took to the streets after a call for demonstrations on July 31 in Zimbabwe. In the course of cracking down, the gov...

My Self Life – And The 1999 Nigeria Constitution

When there is a social problem, or a problem that affects the community, this is how in general a Nigerian thinks: “I can see the problem. But it does not affect me at all. So what does it concern me?... I can see the problem. But I have a way to bypass it for myself. So I will let it be…. I can see the problem. But I have the means to escape its effects. I eat well. My children are safe. Let the hungry and the poor who suffer it, stop it, not me….” These are the evident values of socially accepted Nigerian Culture, for SELF is writ large in the heart of many Nigerians. Thus, “Nigerian Culture” revolves around “What’s in it for ME?”   Even though many live by the Nigerian Culture, and by their behaviour have defined it for what it is, and for the whole world to see, a precious f...

Former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has accused Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta affairs of sexual harassment, saying she once slapped the minister for molesting her. Nunieh in an interview with Arise TV, on Monday said that the incident took place at the minister’s guest house in Abuja. She noted that her reaction to the molestation showed her zero tolerance for “nonsense” as a Rivers state woman. Nunieh said, “Why did he not tell Nigerians that I slapped him in his guest house at Apo? I am the only woman that slapped Akpabio. He thought he could come up on me. He tried to harass me sexually.” “I slapped him. He tried to come on me. I am an Ogoni woman and nobody jokes with us. I showed Akpabio that Rivers women do not tol...

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta Condemns Racism, Says No Community is Superior

....the President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta has made the call for less emphases to be made on race as all races are equal. The President made the call on Wednesday in an interview with the Atlantic Council where he referenced Kenya’s experiences as a model for U.S. as she seeks to rise above race and achieve equality among all individuals. Kenyatta said, “You are familiar with the scenario Kenya saw itself in in 2007 as a result of the ethnic clashes that we had. We can’t afford to have anybody feeling that they have been left out or left behind. So, ours is just to encourage all out partners across the globe. We have seen the problems when communities clash with each other. We have seen what it costs. We need one another.” His stance became necessary in the face of continued global p...

Remembering the Apo6; 15 Years After by Charles Ogbu

Today makes it 15 years since 5 Igbo traders along with their female friend were brutally murdered by men of the Nigerian Police Force led by then Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Danjuma Ibrahim at a police checkpoint in Gimbiya street, area 11, Garriki, Abuja because the female victim turned down the romantic overtures of the senior Police officer, Danjuma at a night club in the city. The 5 Igbo traders' names were (1)Ifeanyi Ozor, (2)Chinedu Meniru, (3) Anthony Nwokike, (4) Paulinus Ogbonna, (5) Ekene Isaac Mgbe and (6) Augustina Arebu the only female victim and fiance to Ifeanyi Ozor. George Floyd Killing – African Implications Of Continued Hatred Of Black Bodies

5th June 2020   The agonizing killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 in open view of the world by a White police officer assisted by 3 other non-Black officers, one of them Oriental, in America, is yet another hate-fuelled killing of a Black body. On that same day, in another part of America a White female called police with her best acting voice and lied that she was being threatened by a Black man, all because he had correctly complained about her needing to put her dog on a leash in that part of the park where they were. You see, Amy Cooper knew that Black people are hated and harmed by other communities, and she used the right words during her lying phone call to police, that would have potential to get the Black male, Christian Cooper (no relation) killed. Fortunately Chri...

George Floyd, The Black Race, and The Greatest Love of All – Reno Omokri

God created diversity. It is satan that created racism. How do I know? The first time racism occurred in Scripture (“Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married”-Numbers 12:1), God punished the racists. Many people have asked why I am yet to comment on the George Floyd case, and the truth is that I am not as concerned about Blue on Black killings as I am about Black on Black killings. For every Black man killed by a White cop, there are over 20 Black people murdered by their fellow Blacks.  The death of George Floyd is a tragedy. Officer Chauvin AND HIS CREW must be charged as a lesson. But the Black race must learn our own lesson. Protests are good. But destroying infrastructure in Black neighborhoods doesn’t help George get justice! Ma...

Opinion: An Open Letter to President Muhammadu Buhari – Fani-Kayode

Mr. President, many believe that you cannot read and those that believe that you can claim that you cannot go beyond three lines. They say outside of that you can only comprehend cartoons. I do not share either view. I know you well enough to concede that when you consider a literary submission of sufficient importance you have the presence of mind, discipline, health, intelligence and ability to read through it very slowly and very carefully weighing up every word.  And that is precisely as it should be. The first open letter that I wrote to you was in December 2015 and the following serves as the second. You will forgive me because this is a long letter and I am fully aware that your attention span or ability to retain too much information in one fell swoop may not be as good as...
