FG Approves an NGO to Monitor Spending of $311m Abacaha Loot

The Federal Government has selected a civil society organisation, CLEEN Foundation, to monitor the spending of the last tranche of $311m returned funds looted by the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha. This was disclosed on Thursday by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. The fund which was returned in February 2020, was reported to have been appropriated for three notable projects - the 2nd Niger Bridge, the Abuja-Kano Expressway and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State has solicited support from the Federal Government for the state’s airport project. The governor on Thursday visited the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika where he sought support from the ministry to help the state accomplish the construction of its airport. A tweet by the official Twitter handle of the Federal Ministry of Aviation disclosed the visit. The power grid in the country collapsed once again on Sunday, leading to total blackouts for several hours in parts of the nation, African News Today has gathered.
