YABATECH: ASUP Quits from Part-Time Programmes Over Shortfall in Wages

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), on Monday disengaged from all the part-time programmes in the college following the shortfall in the payment of wages and allowances to its members. Mr Nureni Yekini, Chairman ASUP disclosed the union decision to newsmen at the end of the union’s congress in Lagos. He said that all services had been suspended till further notice. He explained that the congress reached the decision following various complaints from members over shortfall in payment of wages and allowances by the management of the college. Sanwo-Olu Orders Investigation into Lagos Poly Crisis, Vows to Deal with Troublemakers

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, constituted a visitation Panel with a task to investigate all contentious issues that are setting the staff union against the management of Lagos State Polytechnic. Lagos Govt Announces New Date for 2019/20 Entrance Exam to Public Schools

The Lagos State Ministry of Education has announced new dates for the 2019/2020 Entrance Examinations into the State Model Colleges and Upgraded Schools, the Placement Test into JSS 1 in all Public Secondary Schools across the State and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). According to a release by the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Olatokunboh Adeleye, the examinations are aimed at testing the applicants’ academic capabilities for their choice of classes in the State-owned Schools. Nigeria: School Building Collapse in Lagos, Many Feared Dead

Several victims, including school children are presently trapped under the rubbles of a three story building that suddenly collapsed in the morning at Ita-Faji area, Lagos Island. As part of effort to rescue the trapped pupils who were wailing under the rubbles, men of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, Lagos State Fire Service, and other rescue teams have been dispatched to the scene. According to source, the floor of the building houses a school where pupils were in class when the tragedy struck. At press time efforts were on to ensure that trapped victims are brought out alive. A video of some school girls performing at a competition wearing very skimpy outfits, has sparked serious outrage. The outfit which leaves the breasts and buttocks exposed is known as "inkciyo" and is a traditional wear of the Xhosa ethnic group, the second largest ethnic group in South Africa. Following the outrage, the choirmaster of the school said he was proud of their performance. According to him, "We are proud of our Xhosa tradition. We are proud of 'inkciyo'.
