Management of OAU Speaks on School Reopening

The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife has dismissed a circular allegedly signed by registrar of the institution stating the school was set to reopen. This was disclosed in a communique issued by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Abiodun Olarewaju who said the institution remains shut as instructed by the Federal government in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic until otherwise stated. Schools in Osun to Reopen September 21

Osun State Government on Monday said that schools across the state are set to reopen on September 21, 2020. This was contained in a communique by Mrs Funke Egbemode, Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, after State Executive Council meeting. According to Egbemode, stakeholders should continue to formulate safety protocols towards the reopening of schools in line with guidelines by Federal Ministry of Education. Muslim students in Lagos State have appealed to government to provide palliatives for private schools to avert job losses occasioned by adverse effect of COVID-19 on private schools. United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has said the COVID-19 induced school closure has created a global education emergency occasioned by the inability of a third of children to access virtual leaning. The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, has said private universities are more prepared for resumption than government owned tertiary institutions. Rwanda Discloses Plans for School Resumption

The government of Rwanda has said schools will remain shut till comprehensive risk assessment is conducted which will determine period and method of resumption. The decision on school reopening is one among other resolutions reached by the cabinet after a meeting on Friday, August 14 in Kigali.
