Some undergraduates have pleaded with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to put them into consideration and suspend the over eight-month strike. The students who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu on Thursday, expressed sadness over the protracted nature of the strike while appealing to the leadership of ASUU to suspend the industrial action. Some of the students said they had become tired and frustrated due to the time wasted any academic achievement. Following months of strike action by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Federal Government on Friday bowed to pressure, offering the union ₦65 billion for Earned Academic Allowance and Revitalisation of the nation’s public universities. The Federal Government also agreed to exempt the varsity lecturers from the much-disputed Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information (IPPIS), until the union’s University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS) was ready for usage. Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has concluded plans to organise its semester examinations despite the ongoing strike action by members of the Academic Staff of Universities (ASUU). The management of the university in a statement issued by Acting Registrar, Barr. T.M Ikpenwa disclosed that the examinations which were earlier billed to commence Monday, November 16 (today) have been postponed for a period of two weeks.
