Nigerian Politicians, Other West African Leaders Responsible for Over £30m Annual Funding to UK Education Sector – Report

A report published by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, CEIP, has disclosed that politicians in West Africa, majorly Nigeria, contribute over £30m annually to the United Kingdom’s education sector. According to the report released by CEIP, at least 40 per cent of Nigerian governors, past and present, have had their children study in UK universities from 1999 till date. It showed that only ten state governors, past and present, have not sent their children to study in the UK. The University of Calabar will resume on February 5 for the 2019/2020 academic session. A statement by the Registrar & Secretary to Council, Gabriel Egbe, announced the resumption date following the approval by the Senate of the University. Primary school teachers in Plateau State have refused to return to the classroom over unpaid salaries by the government saying they would not return to work on an empty stomach. Reps Propose Three-month Postponement of School Resumption

The House of Representatives has frowned at the decision of the Federal Government to allow schools to resume on Monday despite a spike in cases of COVID-19. The Green chamber alleged that the Federal Government failed to consult the relevant committees of the National Assembly, contrary to their claim that all relevant stakeholders were consulted before arriving at the January 18, 2021, resumption date. The Federal Government has asked schools to resume on January 18, 2021 after “due consultation” with stakeholders. The decision was reached after a meeting with stakeholders, including Governors, Commissioners of Education, Proprietors and heads of institutions, staff unions and students. NECO Results: 233,000 Candidates to Retake Missed Subjects

The National Examination Council has said that a total of 233,000 candidates, who could not take the NECO examination in some states due to the #EndSARS protests at the time would be accommodated in the external examination, African News Today has gathered. This was disclosed by the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Prof. Godswill Obioma, while giving a breakdown of the results in Minna, Niger State. The external examination is billed to take place between Monday, February 1 and Wednesday, March 3 2021. According to the NECO, the states affected by the protest are Abia, Enugu, Edo, River, Ondo, Ekiti, Osun, Lagos, Oyo, Kano, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. BREAKING: NECO Releases SSCE Results

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the internal Senior Secondary School Examination (SSCE) results with a two per cent increase of candidates who made five credits and above in all subjects. The Council also derecognised 12 schools for their involvement in mass cheating and whole school cases of malpractice. The Registrar, Professor Godswill Obioma, announced these at the NECO Headquarters in Minna. He said the schools derecignised include four schools in Adamawa, two in kaduna, two in Kastina, Two in Niger, one in Taraba and one in FCT. The Senate of the Ahmadu Bello University has approved Monday, January 25th, 2021 as the resumption date for academic activities in the university. The Nigeria Union of Teachers has expressed readiness to resume work but warned that it would declare trade disputes with states owing workers up to four months salaries. The union stated that since COVID-19 had truncated academic activities for about five months, they were ready to return to classes as they had known how to guard against the virus.
