Edo Schools Set To Reopen Today

The Edo State Government has announced that schools in the state will resume for the 2021/2022 academic session on Monday, September 6, 2021. In a statement, Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Stella-Maris Imasuen, said parents/guardians are to ensure that all relevant learning materials are provided for their children/wards. The Federal University Oye Ekiti has appointed Foluso Ogunmodede as the institution’s public relations officer. Ogunmodede, who was until the appointment the Chief Information Officer to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, replaced the erstwhile PRO, Yinka Ademuyiwa. Insecurity: Zamfara Imposes Curfew, Closes Schools

Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle of Zamfara State has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew across the 14 Local government Areas in the State. The government has also shut down schools, both private and public, operating in all the LGA in the state. This followed the abduction of a yet-to-be-ascertained number of pupils of Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara state on Wednesday. The Federal Government has explained the delay in paying the University Revitalisation Fund and meeting other demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, in an interview with The PUNCH, said the government was working hard to ensure the release of the revitalisation fund by the Central Bank of Nigeria. ASUU Set To Embark on Strike, Gives FG Tuesday Ultimatum

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has expressed its readiness to embark on another round of industrial action following what it called the failure of the Federal Government to implement an agreement signed with the union. The union is giving the government till month-end (Tuesday) to reach out or it will activate the procedure of embarking on strike. The union’s President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, who disclosed this in an interview with The PUNCH on Sunday, added that the FG no longer picked its calls. NUC Accredits FUOYE For Six Academic Programmes

The National Universities Commission has approved full accreditation for six academic programmes at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti. The FUOYE management announced this on Monday, in a statement jointly signed by the Chief Information Officer, Mr Foluso Ogunmodede and Mr Wole Balogun, the Special Adviser on Media Matters to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina. According to the statement, the approval was sequel to the accreditation conducted by the NUC in March and April, on the six academic programmes of the university. The six programmes that received full accreditation are Agriculture and Hospitality/Tourism Management in the Faculty of Agriculture, English and Literary Studies and Theatre and Media Arts Studies in the Faculty of Arts.
