The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, has issued a directive for the immediate probe of the Commander, IGP Intelligence Response Monitoring Team, DCP Abba Kyari, who has been declared a person of interest by a United States Court for his alleged rapport to international fraudster, Ramon Abbas, alias Hushpuppi. Kyari, who is popularly known as ‘super cop,’ had received rapid promotions and a commendation from the National Assembly for his exploits in combating crime. A suspected fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, who pleaded guilty in the United States, has narrated how he bribed Nigeria’s celebrated Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, according to court documents. According to the US Department of Justice, a criminal complaint initiated the prosecution of Hushpuppi in February as court documents ordered unsealed showed that Abbas, a 37-year-old Nigerian national, pleaded guilty on April 20. EFCC Detains Former Nasarawa Governor, Wife

Former Nasarawa State Governor and serving senator, Tanko Al-Makura, and his wife, Mairo Al-Makura, have been detained by the Economic Crimes Commission (EFCC). Multiple sources at the headquarters of the commission told Daily Trust last night explained that the duo honoured the invitation extended to them by the commission. One of the sources said the couple were detained when the operatives of the anti-graft agency demanded some explanations from them about the finances of the state but they were unable to answer. A Federal High Court in Lagos has discharged Senator Peter Nwaoboshi of the N322million money laundering charge filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke held that the agency failed to prove the elements of the offences for which it charged the lawmaker. Nwaoboshi, a Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, represents Delta North in the upper chamber. The judge also discharged Nwaoboshi’s two firms – Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd and Suiming Electrical Ltd – on the same ground.
