Opinion: Still On Adebayo Shittu’s Service Scandal

I am taken aback by the line of defence proffered by Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu for skipping National Youth Service. Is the man kidding Nigerians? I have heard the man speak on various occasions and consider him intelligent. I however consider his reason for deliberately skipping the National Youth Service as one of the most silly and unreasonable arguments I've ever heard from a lawyer. His argument is said to be that having been elected into the Oyo State House of Assembly at age 26, after law school, he felt that was "National service"! Maybe the "Honourable Minister" should revisit the N.Y.S.C Act. Is the Honourable Minister telling us that Mrs Kemi Adeosun who was Ogun State Commissioner for finance and later Minister of finance should have claimed...

Nigeria: Return Our Stolen Asset, Not Give Doomsday Prophecy On 2019 – Presidency to HSBC

PRESIDENCY WANTS HSBC TO RETURN OUR STOLEN ASSETS, NOT GIVE US DOOMSDAY PROPHECY ON 2019 The Presidency wishes to make clear to all Nigerians, and particularly the global banking giant HSBC which said the second term of President Muhammadu Buhari would stunt the economy, that what killed Nigeria’s economy in the past was the unbridled looting of state resources by leaders, the type which was actively supported by HSBC. A bank that soiled its hand with ‘‘millions of US dollars yet-to-be-recovered Abacha loot’’, and continued until a few months ago to shield the stolen funds of one of the leaders of the Nigerian Senate has no moral right whatsoever to project that a “second term for Mr. Buhari raises the risk of limited economic progress and further fiscal deterioration.” Rather, ...

It will be recalled that Kemi Adeosun was involved in a forgery scandal which eventually led to her resignation. According to the profile being circulated, she was born in 1963 and was said to have graduated from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in 1981. From calculations, this means she graduated at the age of 18. Since her first degree was in Accounting, it means she studied at ABU for at least 4 years, which means she gained admission into the school at the age of 14.Traced further ...

Opinion: How Jonathan Fought Corruption more Effectively than Buhari Has Ever Done – Aribisala

It is necessary to remind Nigerians that the biggest institutional attacks on corruption in Nigeria came under the PDP. EFCC, ICPC and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) were all created by the PDP. Building institutions is always far better than propaganda. Goodluck Jonathan addressed the issue of corruption in this manner. He attempted to remove the big institutional corruption represented by the petroleum subsidy. But this was rejected by Nigerians at the instance of Tinubu and Buhari. As a matter of fact, Buhari maintained there was no petroleum subsidy. To quote him, he asked: “Who is subsidizing who?” Jonathan sanitised the banking system. With the introduction of the Government Integrated Financial Management System (GIFMS), physical movement of cash in the maki...

Opinion: Comparison Between Obasanjo, Jonathan and Buhari Shows Buhari is not Fighting Corruption – Femi Aribisala

Record has it that President Obasanjo sacked his IGP Tafa Balogun for corruption. He sacked the then Senate President Adolfus Wabara for corruption. He also sacked his own ministers, Fabian Osuji, S.M Afolabi, Hussein Akwanga, Tim Menakaya, etc for corruption. He also sacked Mrs Mobolaji Osomo for administrative infraction. The same way late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua sacked Mrs Adenike Grange as Minister of Health for administrative infraction. It is on record that President Jonathan also sacked Stella Odua for corruption. Stella Odua was one of the most powerful ministers in President Jonathan's administration. Opinion: The Desperate Agenda of an Evil Tyrant – Femi Fani-Kayode

Much has been brewing in the circles of power of our nation in recent weeks. Permit me to share some of my findings with my readers today. The rest will come later. Key players and leaders in the international community have warned President Muhammadu Buhari not to run for a second term but he has refused to listen. That is why he was in the United Kingdom for 16 days. He was not ill and he was not getting treatment for any ailment but he was consulting with and trying to convince the representatives of various foreign governnents, including the American, British and French, that he can still run in 2019 and win. My sources have confirmed to me that those he interacted with are not convinced but he has resolved to run regardless of their skepticism. They have asked him to probe...

Nigeria: Overhaul SARS Immediately, Osinbajo to IGP

The Nigerian vice President and currently acting President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has directed the Inspector General of Police to immediately overhaul the management and operations of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). According to the Vice President, this was necessitated by the number of complaints of human rights violations received against the body. In a statement this afternoon, Prof Osinbajo said "Following persistent complaints and reports on the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) that border on allegations of human rights violations, I have directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to, with immediate effect, overhaul the management and activities of SARS and ensure that any Unit that will emerge from the process, will be intelligence-driven and restricted ...

Opinion: The Revolution Is Already Here – Femi Aribisala.

Those were the days when peace of mind could be bought with hypocritical acts of philanthropy. But that just won’t do any more. It is karma time. Many years ago, as a member of the Nigerian delegation to the Nonaligned Conference, I engaged a Nigerian vice-president in discussion on Nigerian politics. I cannot recall now the exact subject-matter, but I remember saying at some juncture: “Nigerians won’t stand for that, Sir.” The vice-president became visibly irritated: “What are they going to do?” he asked pointedly. “What can they do about it?” Powerless Nigerians What indeed can Nigerians do about the policies of our government? The official answer is: “absolutely nothing!” Nigerians are deemed powerless and are held with obvious contempt by our leaders. We never seem inclined to...
