Breaking News: Rochas Okorocha and Wife Arrested by EFCC Operatives

Barely 24 hours after vacating office as the governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha and his wife have both been arrested by men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Officers from the commission raided the former governor's house and effected the arrest. Reports have it that men from the commission have also sealed the former governor's university at Ogboko, Eastern Palm University. During his handover, Rochas had made some statements that indicated he might be aware of some plans to arrest him. He had warned that any attempt to silence him will see him fighting back. Breaking News: Tribunal Declares PDP Winner of Osun Gubernatorial Election

The Election Petitions Tribunal set up for the 2018 governorship election in Osun State has declared Ademola Adeleke winner of the election. The three-member panel said during its ruling in Abuja Friday afternoon that the rerun election that held on September 27, 2018, was illegal. The tribunal, therefore, deducted the votes scored by the APC candidate Gboyega Oyetola at the rerun after declaring the rerun illegal. Google currency converter shows naira to dollar has now returned to 361 to a dollar. A few hours ago, Nigerians were shocked to see on Google currency converter that the exchange had dropped to 184 to a dollar and 240 to a pound. Following that argument, getting it back to the current rate will also require some heavy transactions. No official statement has however been made by the government on this brief anomaly.

Following a rumour that INEC might be thinking of postponing the Presidential and house of assembly elections, INEC has come out to refute the rumour. According to Mr. Festus Okoye, a National commissioner in charge of voter education, elections will hold as planned. he called on voters to ignore the rumour and come out for the elections. According to him, the meeting with stakeholders had nothing to do with a possible decision to postpone the elections. He said "Yes we are in a meeting but we have not taken such decision. We are in an election period, and as commissioners we have to meet every time”.

News reaching us has it that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is currently in a crucial meeting with stakeholders to determine the way forward. It is suspected that the reason for this may not be unconnected with the recent logistic issues INEC has suffered in various states. In a surprising turn of events a day to the elections, it appears that IPOB has called off its decision to boycott the elections. In a tweet released on Nnamdi Kanu's Twitter handle, the leader of IPOB said the election boycott had been called off. According to him, their preconditions and terms had been met. "Having confirmed this evening that all our preconditions and terms have been met, signed, sealed and delivered; I hereby call-off the election boycott across Biafraland on Feb. 16, 2019. I dedicate this historic victory to the formidable #IPOB family worldwide." It is not clear at this time what these preconditions and terms are and who met them.

Breaking News: Shehu Shagari Dies at 93

Nigeria's second republic President Alhaji Shehu Shagari has died at the age of 93. Shagari passed on this morning at the National Hospital Abuja after a brief illness. He became the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria when he took over from the military administration of Olusegun Obasanjo on October 1, 1979. He however only served as president till December 31st, 1983 when he was overthrown in a military coup by the current President Buhari. While announcing the death, Bello Shagari, grandson to the late Shagari said "I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja."
