World Cup: Egypt Falls 1:3 to Hosts Russia

The Egyptians playing with their star player, Salah were defeated 3:1 by hosts Russia. The first half of the encounter ended goal-less but things changed when in the 47th minute, The Egyptians conceded an own goal, opening the flood gate of goals. Following the own goal in the 47th minute, Russia scored in the 59th minute through Cheryshev and again in the 3 minutes later through Dzyuba. Egypt got a consolation goal courtesy of a Salah penalty but this might not be enough to see them to the second round. Though Egypt is not technically out, they will need Uruguay to lose to both Saudi Arabia and Russia, giving Russia the full 9 points, and each of the remaining teams 3 points each. World Cup: Senegal Gives Africa its First Win

Senegal defeated Poland by 2:1 to give Africa its first win in the on-going 2018 FIFA World Cup. Senegal's first goal was put down as an own goal after a Polish defender deflected a Senegalese shot into his own net. In the 60th minute, Niang, coming back into the pitch having gone out following an injury, latched unto a defensive error to give Senegal her second goal. World Cup: Tunisia Loses 2:1 to England

England edged past Tunisia with a 2:1 score line. The match which was looking like it was going to be Africa's first result at the on-going World Cup ended up in another loss for an African team. Harry Kane had opened score for the English in the 11th minute, pouncing on a parry by the goalkeeper to tap in the first goal. Tunisia responded through Ferjani Sassi in the 35th minute via a penalty. This was the first goal by any African team so far at the on-going World Cup. Though Tunisa held on to the end of regulation time, a defensive error in the 90th minute resulted in a corner which was headed in by Harry Kane off a Maguire header. "After wide consultations with party men and women as well as other major stakeholders, I have decided to seek the party’s nomination to contest the poll." With this announcement, the former governor of Kaduna State and former Senator threw in his hat into the race for the Presidency of Nigeria come 2019. Makarfi made this announcement at a press briefing which took place today Sunday June 17th. World Cup: Nigeria Loses 2:0 to Croatia

Nigeria continued the losing streak of the African representatives to the world cup with a 2:0 loss to Croatia in their first match. Nigeria's woes began in the 32nd minute when Etebo touched in a wayward header while trying to defend a corner kick, giving the Croatians the lead. In the 71st minute, Ekong Grabbed hold of Mandzukic again while defending a corner gifting the Croatians with a penalty which Modric converted nice. Nigeria now has an up-hill task to qualifying for the next round, being bottom of group D. Croatia will now play Argentina on the 21st while Nigeria will Iceland on the 22nd.

World Cup: Morocco Lose 0:1 to Iran Via Own-Goal

In the second match of the day and the first match of group B, Morocco and Iran were looking set to play out a goal-less draw until a last minute own-goal gave Iran the win. Though Morocco had more ball possession and looked like the team with more intent, they failed to convert any of their chances. Sadly, Aziz Bouhaddouz knocked a goal into his own net in the 5th minute of additional time, starting Morocco on a losing note. Morocco will now face Portugal on the 20th while Iran will face Spain on the same date.

World Cup: Uruguay Edges Past Egypt by 1:0

In a keenly contested encounter, the Uruguayans narrowly edged past the Egyptian team by a lone goal. Just when fans were settling for a goal-less draw, Jose Gimenez headed in a lovely goal from a free-kick, breaking Egyptian hearts. The Egyptian without Salah lacked much bite in the final third. Salah is expected to be fit and ready to play when Egypt takes on Russia in their next match on the June 19.

Following the rumoured death of the leader of the gang that carried out the Offa robbery that claimed about 33 persons, some Civil Society Organizations have called on the Police to produce him or face legal action. The leader of the gang, Michael Adikwu who is a former Police officer was rumoured to have been shot by the Police in custody as a means of getting confessions from the others.
