News emerging from Egypt has it that the trophy the country's national team won thrice in a row was discovered missing from the country's football federation headquarters. According to reports, the discovery was made as preparations were being made to create a museum where all the trophies and awards won by the Egyptian football teams will be kept and displayed. Health authorities in Egypt announced 1,218 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday 18 June, 2020. This brings the total number of corona virus cases in Egypt to over 50,000, two weeks before her planned easing of lockdown measure. Egypt imposed lockdown in March to mitigate the transmission of the virus, resulting in school closure, restaurants and bulk of international airlifting. The Arab nation’s booming tourism industry was negatively impacted by the disease. World Cup: Egypt Falls 1:3 to Hosts Russia

The Egyptians playing with their star player, Salah were defeated 3:1 by hosts Russia. The first half of the encounter ended goal-less but things changed when in the 47th minute, The Egyptians conceded an own goal, opening the flood gate of goals. Following the own goal in the 47th minute, Russia scored in the 59th minute through Cheryshev and again in the 3 minutes later through Dzyuba. Egypt got a consolation goal courtesy of a Salah penalty but this might not be enough to see them to the second round.
