Nollywood Stars Suspected to Have Been Kidnapped by Gunmen

Nollywood stars Cynthia Okereke and Clemson Cornell have reportedly been abducted by suspected gunmen after returning from a movie set in Enugu. Monalisa Chinda of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) disclosed the information on her Instagram page. She stated that the film stars were declared missing by their family members when they didn’t return from a movie set located at Ozalla Town in Enugu State. The National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) advised members to stop going to cities’ outskirts to film unless security was provided. The Federal Government has vouched to sanction the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and Trust TV for propagandising terrorism and banditry. The Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed made the announcement on Thursday. This announcement came after media houses, Trust TV and BBC Africa Eye aired documentaries showcasing the activities of bandits and terrorists. Lai Mohammed reacted to the documentaries, calling the media houses unprofessional as they intended on promoting activities of terror and violence. Naira Devalues to N700/$1 as Dollar Demand Rises

The value of the Naira has continued to fall and has now hit N700 to $1 in the parallel market as the demand for the foreign currency persists. As of last week, Naira was valued at N630 to $1 and has maintained a value of N620 to $1 before the further devaluation. Abudul Hassan, who is a Lagos-based Bureaux De Change (BDC) operator said the devaluation of the naira to the dollar is a result of the demand for the dollar in the parallel market, so therefore the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) finds it difficult to meet the demand at the official market. “Everybody is moving to the parallel market and we have seen rising pressure there. Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, threatens to sack all lecturers of the Kaduna State University (KASU) still involved in the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) stopped academic activities in February over the inability of the government to fulfill its demands. INEC: New Voters Registrations Hit 10.4 million

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disclosed that the registrations of Nigerians in the Continuous Voters Registration hit 10.4 million. The commission also stated that a total of 11 million registrants had their registration completed as of Tuesday. It was also revealed that 3.3 million of the registrants requested their registration online while 7.6 million registrants went for physical registration. The commission also gave a gender analysis of registrants as 5,453,071 males and 5,558,048 females out of which 80,101 are persons with disabilities, completed their registration. Four hostages that were abducted from the train attack on the Abuja-Kaduna railway on the 28th of March, have been released. The hostages were released yesterday, leaving 43 captives in the custody of the terrorists. The release came after a viral video surfaced, which showed the terrorist torturing the abductees and threatening to abduct President Buhari and Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
