Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has explained that “recent developments” within the Peoples Democratic Party were responsible for his resignation from the opposition party and withdrawal from its presidential primary slated for end of May. Obi was one of the 15 PDP presidential aspirants cleared by the Senator David Mark-led Presidential Screening Committee last month. However, the ex-governor, in a statement addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, explained that the recent developments won’t make it possible for him to make “constructive contributions”. Dino Melaye Loses PDP Senatorial Ticket

The serving House of Representative member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, Tajudeen Yusuf, on Tuesday, defeated Dino Melaye, n the re-run election to pick the Kogi West Senatorial ticket of the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the election, held on Monday, ended in deadlock as both aspirants scored 88 votes respectively. However, during the runoff election on Tuesday, Mr Yusuf scored 163 votes while Mr Melaye scored 99 votes, dashing the latter’s dream of returning to the Senate in the 10th National Assembly. EFCC Operatives Storm Okorocha’s Abuja Residence, Arrest Him

Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, arrested the former Imo State governor and presidential aspirant, Rochas Okorocha, at his Maitama, Abuja residence. Though the security operatives met stiff resistance from the supporters of the former governor, tear gas was fired to disperse them to effect the arrest. The anti-graft agency said it laid siege to the home of the former governor to arrest him, accusing him of jumping bail granted him by the commission. EFCC’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement, said the move followed the refusal of Okorocha to honour invitations after jumping the administrative bail earlier granted him by the commission. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has urged that the killings in the South-East should stop. Kanu also demanded the immediate release of Mrs Ukamaka Ejezie, a newspaper vendor popularly known as ‘Mama Biafra’ in Abia State. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, a counsel of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has reacted to the beheading of Okey Okoye, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, by unknown gunmen. Ejiofor said Kanu would be “gravely shocked” to learn of such killings in the South-East. He lamented that blood-sucking demons have taken over the South-East.
