EFCC Denies Obiano Bail, May Get Court Order To Hold Him

Immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, who was arrested on Thursday night at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, en route United States of America, has been denied administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to EFCC sources, Obiano is being interrogated and detained over alleged embezzlement of funds during his eight-year tenure as governor. The source said that the anti-graft agency will keep Obiano in its Abuja office throughout the weekend, and may likely secure an order from a Magistrate Court to detain him for more days. EFCC Detectives Quiz Obiano Over ₦5b Sure-P, ₦37b Security Votes Spending

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday moved ex-Governor Willy Obiano from Lagos to Abuja for quizzing over alleged N42 billion fraud. Obiano was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja on Thursday night a few hours after he handed over power to Prof. Charles Soludo in Awka, and subsequently lost his immunity from arrest. The former governor was said to be on his way to the United States where he was residing before his election eight years ago. He is alleged to have mismanaged his security vote while in office. Obiano’s Arrest: CACOL Hails EFCC, Urges Them Not To Leave Any Stone Unturned

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, on Friday, hailed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for arresting former Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos. Obiano was reportedly on his way out of the country to Houston, Texas in the United States after handing over to his successor, Governor Charles Soludo. It was reported last November that the EFCC had placed Obiano on a watchlist. The national working committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has released its schedule of activities ahead of the 2023 general election. The timetable which was signed by Umar Bature, the national organising secretary of the PDP, was officially released on Wednesday after the joint meeting of the board of trustees (BOT) and national executive committee (NEC) of the party at its headquarters in Abuja. NNPC Fails To Account For 107 Million Barrels Of Crude, – Auditor General

The Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation has said the defunct Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, now Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, has failed to account for about 107,239,436 barrels of crude oil lifted for domestic consumption in 2019. The office made the allegation in its 2019 audit report presently being considered by the Committees on Public Accounts at the Senate and House of Representatives.According to the report, about 22,929.84 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, valued at N7.06bn and pumped to the two depots (Ibadan-Ilorin and Aba-Enugu) between June and July 2019 were not received by the depots.
